Question 11 1 pts 3 moles of A are mixed with 2 moles of B. What is the mole fraction of A (XA)? Write your answer to two decimal places (not asa fraction):
Answer
Mole Percent
Multiplying the mole fraction by 100 gives the mole percentage, also referred as amount/amount percent (abbreviated as n/n%). For general chemistry, all the mole percents of a mixture add up to 100 mole percent. We can easily convert mole percent back to mole fraction by dividing by 100. So, a mole fraction of 0.60 is equal to a mole percent of 60.0%.

Calculations with Mole fraction and Mole Percent Mole Fraction in Mixtures
A mixture of gases was formed by combining 6.3 moles of O2 and 5.6 moles of N2. What is the mole fraction of nitrogen in the mixture?
First, we must find the total number of moles with ntotal = nN2 + nO2.
n t o t a l = 6.3 m o l e s + 5.6 m o l e s = 11.9 m o l e s
ntotal=6.3 moles+5.6 moles=11.9 moles
.
Next we must divide the moles of N2 by the total number of moles:
x ( mole fraction ) = ( moles N 2 moles N 2 + moles O 2 ) = ( 5.6 moles 11.9 moles ) = 0.47
x(mole fraction)=( moles N2 moles N2+ moles O2)=(5.6 moles11.9 moles)=0.47
The mole fraction of nitrogen in the mixture is 0.47.
Mole Fraction in Solutions
Mole fraction can also be applied in the case of solutions. For example, 0.100 moles of NaCl are dissolved in 100.0 mL of water. What is the mole fraction of NaCl?
We are given the number of moles of NaCl, but the volume of water. First, we convert this volume to a mass by using the density of water (1.00 g/mL), and then we convert this mass to moles of water:
100 m L H 2 O × ( 1.0 g 1 m L ) = 100.0 g H 2 O × ( 1 moles 18.0 g ) = 5.55 moles H 2 O
100 mL H2O×(1.0g1mL)=100.0 g H2O×(1 moles18.0g)=5.55 moles H2O
With this information we can find the total number of moles present: 5.55 + 0.100 = 5.65 moles. If we divide the moles of NaCl by the total number of moles, we find the mole fraction of this component:
x = ( 0.100 m o l e s 5.65 m o l e s ) = 0.0176
x=(0.100moles5.65moles)=0.0176
We find that the mole fraction of NaCl is 0.0176.
Mole Fraction with Multi-Component Mixtures
Mole fractions can also be found for mixtures that are formed from multiple components. These are treated no differently than before; again, the total mole fraction of the mixture must be equal to 1.
For example, a solution is formed by mixing 10.0 g of pentane (C5H12), 10.0 g of hexane (C6H14) and 10.0 g of benzene (C6H6). What is the mole fraction of hexane in this mixture?

The question mole fraction of the solution is an incomplete one. It could be mole fractions of A or B or C in the solution.
Mole Fraction of any component in a mixture is given by
MOLE FRACTION = (NUMBER OF MOLES OF THE GIVEN COMPONENT)/(TOTAL NUMBER OF MOLES OF ALL COMPONENTS)
Hence, we get that mole fraction of A = 0.1/(0.1+0.1+0.1)= 0.33
Similarly, mole fraction of B and C will also come out to be 0.33.

Why is the sum of a mole fraction equal to 1?
Any fraction you add up is always equal to one. Why? Because a fraction is part of one whole e.g. if you cut up a cake into six portions each of the portions is a fraction of the whole cake - one sixth. So if you add up all 6 portions together you get one (whole cake)! Same applies to any fraction whether it’s ‘mole fraction’ or any system :)

What is the mole fraction for solution A and B in the link below?
Well, that's impossible to say. I took a look at the table, and it is missing critical information:
What is solution A? What is solution B? What is the precipitate formed? Without knowing this, it is impossible to calculate the mole fraction.
But let me explain how to calculate the mole fractions in question:
First, we need to determine the number of moles of A. We know that
c= n V c=nV so n=c⋅V n=c⋅V
So for the first row,
n A
=0.1mol/l⋅1ml=0.1mmol
nA=0.1mol/l⋅1ml=0.1mmol
Know, we need the number of moles of B:
n B
=0.2mol/l⋅19ml=3.8mmol
nB=0.2mol/l⋅19ml=3.8mmol
Now, we have to substract the precipitate: A reacted with B,

Why is a mole fraction equal to unity?
The mole fraction is not equal to unity. However, the sum of the mole fractions of the components is equal to unity. For instance for a mole A and mole B, the mole fraction A, XA = mole A/(mole A + mole B), mole fraction B, XB = mole B/(mole A + mole B)
XA + XB = mole A/(mole A + mole B) + mole B/(mole A + mole B)
XA + XB = (mole A + mole B)/(mole A + mole B) = 1 (unity).

What is the total mass in grams of 0.75 moles of SO2?
No of moles = 0.75 mol
Molar mass = 64 g/mol
Now mass
No of moles = (mass in grams)/molar mass
0.75 = (mass in grams)/ 64
Mass in grams of SO2 = 64 x 0.75
Mass in grams of SO2 = 48 g

What is the mole fraction of a 3.6% NaOCl solution by mass?
3.6/100 solution
100 - 3.6 = 96.4 g H2O
3.6/74.5 g/mol = 0.0483 mol NaOCl
96.4/18 = 5.36 mol H2O
///////////////////////////////////
XNaOCl = 0.0483 / (0.0483 + 5.36) = 0.0483/5.41= 0.009
XH2O = 5.36/5.41 = 0.991
