Why Use A Baby Bouncer?
Bouncers come in all shapes and sizes, but they all fundamentally do the same thing: provide your baby with a safe place to sit (or lay). They’re useful for many reasons. Firstly, they’re soothing for baby. Whether your baby generates their own bouncing movement or it’s generated for them electronically, bouncers rock – literally! By creating movement that’s calming for baby, a bouncer can soothe your little one. This is particularly useful for those stretches of time when baby won’t settle, or you simply want to keep your baby happy and entertained while you are looking after them.
Short periods in a bouncer will keep your little safe while you get on hands-free, whether that’s preparing baby’s food (or yours) or doing a few tasks around the house. They can even by used for weaning – some bouncers have a static setting, turning them into a mini dining chair. When it comes to the best baby bouncer, you have lots of choice. Some bouncers are like mini music centres with lights and sounds, while others simply bounce when your baby makes their own movements in the seat.
Are Baby Bouncers Safe?
When used correctly, baby bouncers are safe. The first thing is to use them just for short periods. The NHS recommendations on how to keep your baby or toddler active recommends that it’s best to use a baby walker, bouncer or seat for no more than 20 minutes at a time.
When choosing the best baby Bouncer, a bouncer with a safety harness will keep your baby safely and comfortably stowed, without the risk of them bouncing right out of the seat and harming themselves. Of course, you should only use a bouncer within the recommended weight guidelines. Some bouncers can be used from birth while others are only suitable for older babies.
Bouncers should always be placed on a firm, flat surface (not a bed, sofa or cushion for example). Manufacturers will provide specific instructions on how their products should be used. A bouncer with skin-friendly fabrics such as cotton will also increase the comfort factor, allowing baby to lie in just a nappy without feeling overly sweaty or itchy.
BabyBjorn Bouncer Bliss vs Balance Soft: Why Buy?
In this video review, we compare two bouncers from the same brand: the BabyBjorn Bouncer Bliss, and the BabyBjorn Bouncer Balance Soft.
Similarities – Bouncer Bliss vs Balance Soft
In most respects, these products are exactly the same. Age-wise, they’re both suitable from birth all the way to 2 years old. They are dual-mode, turning from a baby bouncer through to toddler chair. To do this, simply turn around the seat fabric when your baby hits the 9kg mark and voila, it’s safe up to 13kg. The Bliss and Bouncer both weigh in at 2.1kg, making them nice and light – ideal for packing into the car for overnight stays or holidays. They’re both ‘baby propelled’ – that is, they move when your baby does – no need for beeps or batteries! Finally, both models have adjustable-height seats, which measure 56H x 79L x 39W (cm) in their highest seat position.
Differences: It’s All In The Fabric
So, what’s the difference? It all comes down to the seat fabrics. Baby Bjorn is known for its high-quality Baby Carriers, and the textiles on its bouncers are no different.
Cotton – across the range
Both models have a cotton option, available in black, grey and navy as well as more adventurous prints, such as BabyBjorn Bouncer Bliss – Cotton – Beige + Leopard. (Yes – this is the exact same print found on the BabyBjorn Baby Carrier Mini – Cotton – Beige + Leopard – loved by Gigi Hadid among other celebrities!)
Regardless which option you go for, they’re all OEKO-TEX Standard 100 (Class 1) standard. This means that they’re safe for your baby to mouth, and are kind on baby’s skin.
Cool Mesh
Both of these BabyBjorn bouncers are also available with a mesh seat, which is ideal for warmer times of year.

3D Jersey – Bliss only
At the time of writing, the Bouncer Soft is available in cotton and mesh, while the Bliss also has a ‘3D Jersey’ option. This is the brand’s softest fabric, and feels velvety soft. It’s also more stretchy than the other fabrics, with a 4% elastane content which allows it to be padded out. As a result, it’s the most luxurious option of the three.
