I'm cheating a bit by counting multiple games in the same series as as single entry in my list.
TMNT 2 / TMNT 3
Double Dragon 2 / Double Dragon 1
River City Ransom
POW
Rollergames

Double Dragon 2
Mighty Final Fight
?
If you like Kung Fu, what do you think of the sequel (Spartan X 2)? I just got that one, and I think it looks really cool. I'm a big fan of single plane brawlers, which are sadly too rare.

Never tried Spartan X. I’ll have to look into that.

Isn't Spartan X 2 the sequel to Spartan X (Kung Fu Master)? Which is different from black box Kung Fu?

Can we include 1v1 fighters? Nevermind, I'm doing it:

Kinda...none? The genre had a rough time on the NES generally. Most games would rarely if ever throw more than two enemies at you at once to keep speed up and flicker down, and dealing with that is pretty much child's play. Take crowd control out of formula, and you're left with a pretty neutered experience IMHO. Maybe the TMNT ones, since they'd up the count to three baddies. These games really only began to reach their potential on the 16-bits.
