I'd say 15-16 years old is a good starting age. But everyone is different, especially when it comes to maturity. It's a case-by-case basis.

It depends how comfortable you feel with allowing your teen to see graphic sexual scenes and violence. My son was about 17 when he started watching Game of Thrones. However, prior to that, he had been watching Dexter which also graphic. I think most of his "graphic" viewing started around 16.
I watched graphic stuff at his age and I felt mature enough to handle it and I felt that my son was also. He's almost 19 now and heading off to college and I don't have any regrets about my decision.
Only you know your son and his maturity level. I would say that many 16 year olds are well aware of the things we think they don't know about.
Anyway, Game of Thrones is a wonderful show; it's actually my favorite now. But only you know what you are comfortable with.

I am not really against violence in shows like that, but the sex is pretty graphic.
I'm the opposite. I'd strongly dislike the violence.
What is an appropriate age to watch GoT? It really depends on the "child".

I would not let my children watch it at any age. They can make their own decisions as adults on their own, but this is not a show I feel comfortable with.

A bit of violence and sex won't do him any harm.I'm sure he's seen films like the hangover, due date, gangs of New York etc and played games like call of duty and grand theft auto

when in doubt, I usually rely on Common Sense Media. You can read how others view it and then make your mind.

I love this show and I would probably have let my 16 year old watch it but I would not have been comfortable watching it with him.

There is more than a bit of violence and sex. I love the show and have watched with my DD when she was 15 and my DS when he was 20 and they were both uncomfortable watching it with their mom.
It deals with incest, rape, prostitution, beheadings in pretty much every episode! Like I said I love the show, but it is graphic!

I don't know the show but I'd rather be aware of what my teen is watching and have an open discussion about it than have him/her watching it at a friend's house behind my back. OP, if your son is aware of the show he's he's likely either watched it at a friend's or heard every detail from friends.

I wouldn't let any teen watch it. My husband doesn't even watch it anymore because in our home, porn is equal to adultery and he watched the first season (he loved the books) and I felt very uncomfortable. I told him so and he has since stopped watching anything with nudity or sex in it. And the sex in that show is soft core porn. No doubt. What is the age limit for Game of Thrones?
Why is Game of Thrones an 18?
