In early 1940, Ana's health was suffering and she could no longer care for Norma Jeane.  Norma Jeane went to live with Grace, her husband Doc and Doc's daughter Bebe. She attended Emerson Junior High School and graduated 9th grade in June 1941.  In September 1941, Norma Jeane and Bebe enrolled as students at Van Nuys High School.

In early 1942, the Goddards announced that they were moving to West Virginia and could not take Norma Jeane with them.  Norma Jeane returned to Nebraska Avenue with Aunt Ana.  This meant her sophomore year was also interrupted by the move.  Norma Jeane began attending University High School in February 1942.

Norma Jeane's classmates were surprised when she announced that she was leaving school in order to get married.  It probably haunted Marilyn her entire life that she did not stay and graduate from high school.  

From being a foster child to being a sex icon for which she is still widely renowned, this powerful woman has defied the obstacles. Marilyn did not stand out as a child since growing up in the foster system was like hiding behind a blanket, and no one appeared to care. Marylin appeared to be moving through life unnoticed, but the real question is whether Marilyn even attended school, let alone completed it.

In her freshman year, Marilyn Monroe did attend Van Nuys High School. She went to University High School for a year before failing out and marrying the following year.

Marilyn attended elementary, middle, and high school. Marilyn went to Van Nuys High School when she was mature enough, and she also lived with the Goddards, who were Gladys’ friends of the family.

Van Nuys is situated in Los Angeles’ central San Fernando Valley, which many would argue was not the wealthiest region at the time, but was mostly for the middle income.

Joe: The Rise of Cobra. He portrayed Philippe Petit in the Robert Zemeckis-directed film The Walk (2015) and whistleblower Edward Snowden in the Oliver Stone film Snowden (2016). For his leading performances in (500) Days of Summer and 50/50, he was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.

This strong female managed to defy odds from being a foster care child to becoming a sex icon which to this day she is well known for. Growing up Marilyn was not someone that stood out because in that era living in the foster system was like putting a blanket over your head and no one seemed to wonder who you were. Marilyn did go to school through junior high then onto high school. When Marilyn was old enough she attended Van Nuys High School while she was also living with the Goddard’s who were family friends of her mother Gladys. Van Nuys is located in the central San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, which many would say is not the richest area at the time but was mainly for the middle class. 

Soon after Monroe had to change living situations and went to live with her Aunt Ana and also had to enroll in another high school because of the different area she was living in.

In her Sophomore year, she attended University high school while living back with her Aunt Ana in 1942. 

Due to her short time in high school, it’s hard to say what Van Nuys and University high school will be in the books of places that had shaped Monroe to become the woman she was and to prove anyone can do anything they put their mind to even when they are high school dropouts.
