Do I need to be online to play Diablo 2 resurrected?

carnifex75, Are you saying that Blizzard denies direct access to single player mode? For example, if you temporarily disable your internet connection, can you play single player mode of a game you fully paid for?

I don’t think you’re getting what he’s requesting. He’s requesting the ability to play the offline mode while in the queue. Right now it’s either/or. You either sit in the queue and twiddle your thumbs or you hit ESC and go into offline mode and abort the queue entirely.

Basically players are asking to be able to enjoy at least some part of the game while they sit in the queue instead of having to be what amounts to being a jerk and doing other things while in the queue and then just leaving the game open perpetually to avoid the hassle again (assuming they don’t crash of course).

Hello, I was using my Nintendo switch and decided to play some D2R and I get that you need to use authentication when logging in(which is still a bit silly on a mobile console with no internet connection!!) but why do I have to have a constant connection up while playing the game offline?

I was playing offline and all of a sudden my internet stopped working and the game prompted me to connect back if I want to keep playing, which is ridiculous, I am playing offline!

I shouldn’t have a constant internet connection on a console that doesn’t even have it’s own connection and needs to get it from outside sources, it’s a mobile console and not only that, the least you could do is supply a cloud service where I can play my single player characters on both my console and my PC if you have a constant internet connection, if I don’t get to have that, why do I need to be connected while playing single player?

this is ridiculous, would have been nice to be able to receive a refund for the switch version but I already contacted support and they are not able to give refunds on the switch

Baalor:

When you get to the D2 splash screen it prompts you to make an internet connection to authenticate. It cannot progress to character selection without that.

Unfortunately the reason this occurs isn’t because of anything Blizzard has done, but due to the requirements for digital purchases on consoles. Without an internet connection none of them work because they can’t be verified as active for your account. It may say “connecting to Battle.net”, but it’s also connecting to the console’s specific authentication servers to verify the game license is valid. This is because the consoles have the ability to let the player put the games on removable storage (NVMe drives for current consoles) and play them on another console, with the restriction that you have to create a user account specifically for you on the console you move the drive to.

This is how and why the console versions differ from the PC version. I’d much rather have a disc version (even if it requires upgrades when they come out) so I could play truly offline since disc based games don’t require that internet connection when starting up in order to play offline like digital purchases do. It makes it all the more frustrating when a player is in an area where internet isn’t always available due to various conditions.

How to Play Diablo 2 Resurrected Offline

Diablo 2 Resurrected is a game where you can create parties with your friends and play the game as a normal RPG. With Offline it is slightly different. To play the game Offline you will first have to authenticate your account. So when you launch the game for the first time you will need to authenticate your account with Battle.net. As you can see, an Internet Connection is required. Don’t worry as you will need to do this once for the most part. Once the authentication is done you can play the game in Offline mode with no issues. The authentication process is done automatically so you don’t have to do anything extra.

Once all the steps are performed you will be shown the Main Screen, here you will have the option of creating characters for Online and Offline modes. From this point, you can play Diablo 2 Resurrected Offline. You will need to log in with the Internet at least once otherwise playing Diablo 2 Resurrected Offline won’t be possible. You may have to do this process once in while again. Although it won’t happen after a long time. Your Offline and Online Characters won’t mix and will stay separate.
