Does hair gel cause hair loss Reddit

Bullshit. 99% of hair loss is genetic. Women use hair products, how many of them are losing hair? Close to zero.

Also, if you've ever seen a man losing his hair, the hair loss pattern is almost always the same, how could that possibly be from using a product? If hair products made your hair fall out, your hair would be falling out all over your head (including the back), not just the front or crown like all MPHL cases. Even the baldest men still have hair on the back and sides of their head.

These bullshit hair loss myths need to stop. Your hair follicles are pretty fucking resilient, really. Hair loss is genetic. It's written into every cell in your body, just like height and eye color. End of story.

I have been hearing this since childhood. Pretty much every single Indian parent must have told their kids these statements. So I wanted to know if this is true or a myth.

Do hair gels and hair waxes cause premature graying of hair and/or hair loss? I have messy hair so I wanted to start using hair wax but I'm terrified of whether they will wreck my hair.

Are shampoos bad for hair? I've using Head & Shoulders shampoo every once in a while and it feels great and prevents any itching of the scalp which was otherwise a problem for me.

So which hair styling products have you used and what are your personal experiences with hair products?

Ever since I was a kid I’ve used hair gel. I always thought that there’s no way it could be good for my hair, but really how bad is it? For the past year or so I’ve been using Gentlemen Republic because it states on the tub that it’s 100% alcohol free but it also has fragrance in it, and I can imagine that can’t be great for your hair. My hairline has been getting much thinner over the last couple years and I know it can be dry much be due to DHT in the scalp, but is it possible my hair gel is making it worse?

Hi, first of all I'm 17 and I have great hair. However, for about 6 months I have been using gel/pomade almost every day. Will it affect my hair in any way? If so, how can I prevent it? Thank you in advance!

Does hair gel cause hair loss Reddit

level 1

No. You're doing more damage to your hair with the heat from the blow dryer than you are with wax, provided you use a clarifying shampoo regularly

level 1

The other comment is absolutely right, heat is more damaging to your hair than most things.

level 2

Native English speaker here and I think you explained your situation just fine. I had no issues with understanding it. With that being said, I'd agree with all of the other responses...less heat and definitely invest in a good heat protectant spray.

level 1

Definitely not. Balding is connected with hormones, particularly testosterone.

If you can't avoid drying your hair, at least dry it on lower heat and stop drying when it is still slightly moist (to avoid over-drying).

I’m a male in my 20s and I’m trying to avoid hair loss at all costs. I used to use hair spray on my hair everyday but I stopped that now, instead I use a hair gel that I manually use to style my hair.

I make sure that it doesn’t touch my scalp, so that it doesn’t get to my hair roots/follicles. I wash my hair twice a week and put the gel after each wash, my hair stays intact for days.

The gel I’m using is supposedly “vegan” and without ALCOHOL; here are the ingredients in the following order:

Aqua, PVP, Acrylates/Steareth-20 Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Acrylates/Hydroxyesters Acrylates Copolymer, Aminomethyl Propanol, Phenoxyethanol, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Glycerin, Parfum, Taurine, DMDM Hydantoin, Benzotriazolyl Dodecyl p-Cresol, Panthenol, Sodium Benzoate, Linalool, Ethylhexilglycerin, Caffeine, Limonene, Benzyl Alcohol

Name: Schwarzkopf Taft Marathon Power Gel 6/15

Can using hair gel cause hair loss?

Hair gels can cause hair loss. Alcohol-based hair gels that dry out the scalp can cause problems for the hair, such as breakage. Moreover, other compounds in gels can also react with cell buildup and sebum on the scalp, clogging the hair follicles and causing hair to fall off.

Does gel speed up balding?

While using pomade might make your hairline more obvious, there's currently no evidence that pomade, wax, gel or other hair styling products are linked with hair loss.

Is it OK to gel your hair everyday?

If you're using gel all day everyday. That is too much. Your hair needs time to breathe and keeping product in your hair 24/7 can be bad for your hair's health. Try to go a day here and there without styling.

Is hair gel damaging reddit?

A lot of gels contain ingredients that dehydrate your hair (like alcohols) or that build up on your scalp (like silicones). Even though cowashing makes you especially prone to buildup, you can still use gel so long as it is free of those non-CG ingredients and provided you do a clarifying rinse every so often.
