Why the Prestihatitator amplifies the latent ambient magical properties of a top hat of course. Ever see what happens when you put a top hat onto a snowman? Comes to life. Now imagine what would happen to said snowman should 10,000 watts of pure, unrefined, unadulterated, magical energy was coursing through said hat when placed upon said snowman? You guessed it: it'd melt. Magically. Show
Science. The Prestihatitator is the first Magic station players will have access to in all versions of Don’t Starve, though players in Shipwrecked will have to access this tier of recipes using the Piratihatitator and those in Hamlet will need the Hogus Porkusator. Although players will have to craft different types of Magic stations in the various versions of the game, all will act fairly similar providing players with the same items as long as the items are accessible in the version of the game. Similar to all other types of crafting stations, players will be able to gain 15 Sanity for every new recipe they prototype. Players will always have to stand next to a Science Machine in order to prototype either of the three Magic stations, being the Prestihatitator, Piratihatitator or the Hogus Porkusator. After prototyping their first Magic station they will be able to prototype these Magic stations from afar. HOW TO DO YOU CRAFT THE PRESTIHATITATOR?The Prestihatitator requires 4 Rabbits, 4 Boards and 1 Top Hat to prototype and will provide players with the first Magic tier of objects. As a secret Easter Egg, players will also have a 10% chance to spawn in a Rabbit every time a player prototypes a new recipe. HOW DO YOU CRAFT THE PIRATIHATITATOR?The Piratihatitator requires 4 Boards, 1 Parrot and 1 Pirate Hat to prototype and will provide players to the first Magic tier of objects. As a secret Easter Egg, players will also have a 10% chance to spawn a Parrot Pirate and a Dubloon every time a player prototypes a new recipe. HOW DO YOU CRAFT THE HOGUS PORKUSATOR?The Hogus Porkusator requires 4 Boards, 4 Pig Skin and 4 Azure Feathers to prototype and will provide players to the first Magic tier of objects. The Hogus Porkusator does not have a hidden Easter Egg. WHAT CAN I CRAFT USING A TIER-1 MAGIC STATION (PRESTIHATITATOR, PIRATIHATITATOR & HOGUS PORKUSATOR)?The following are all of the recipes players can craft when using a tier-1 Magic station. While players will be able to craft the majority of these items in all versions of the game, there are some variances in items you will be able to craft, especially in the DLCs. REFINEThe Refine tab provides players access to items they can use in order to craft other more advanced items. PURPLE GEMA Purple Gem requires 1 Red Gem and 1 Blue Gem to prototype and while players can essentially kill Clockwork Bishops to get them naturally, players will essentially need to rely on Blue and Red Gems which can be obtained by killing Ice and Fire Hounds as they are more reliable and frequent. Players will need a number of Purple Gems if they want to have access to the some of the best Magic items in the game. NIGHTMARE FUELNightmare Fuel requires 4 Dark Petals to prototype and is considered an essential crafting resource for some of the best weapons in all of Don’t Starve. Nightmare Fuel is a fairly easy resource to farm as all it requires is for players to be low on Sanity in order to kill Shadow Creatures, though players can also create Evil Flower farms in order to collect high amounts of Dark Petals in order to safely farm Nightmare Fuel. As a side note, players can also use Nightmare Fuel to spawn in Shadow Chester, who will provide players with a number of Inventory Slots for storage as well as the ability to rot food faster. Nightmare Fuel is definitely something you’re going to want to farm out regularly, because its uses are so vast. MAGICThe Magic Tab features a number of structures, tools and resources that have magical properties. As players can assume, this tab has the most amount of crafting recipes players can gain access to when standing next to a Prestihatitator, Piratihatitator or the Hogus Porkusator. SHADOW MANIPULATORThe Shadow Manipulator requires 7 Nightmare Fuel, 3 Living Logs, and 1 Purple Gem to prototype and is considered the tier-2 Magic station, which will help unlock the remained of the Magic items players will not be able to unlock using the Prestihatitator, Piratihatitator or the Hogus Porkusator. MEAT EFFIGYMeat Effigies require 4 Boards, 4 Beard Hairs and 4 Meat to prototype or 4 Boards, 40 Health and 4 Beard Hair in Don’t Starve Together. Meat Effigies are one of the many ways players can resurrect themselves in all versions of Don’t Starve and in the single-player version, will reduce a player’s Health indefinitely (until it is consumed) by 30 HP. Upon death, a player will teleport to the nearest Meat Effigy unless there is an activated Touch Stone that is closer. Players will still receive a penalty upon being ressurected by the Meat Effigy, as they do with most other resurrection tools, though players will always want at least one Meat Effigy out in single-player. Players in Don’t Starve Together will often avoid crafting a Meat Effigy as when playing in the Endless game-mode (note: not Survival) players will be able to use the Florid Postern to resurrect. Players will only be able to build 5 Meat Effigies unless they are playing Wolfgang or an upgraded WX-78. PAN FLUTEThe Pan Flute requires 5 Cut Reeds, 1 Mandrake and 1 Rope to prototype and provides players with the ability to put all nearby Mobs to sleep. While players in single-player Don’t Starve will only have access to one Pan Flute, simply because they will only be able to find one Mandrake, players in Don’t Starve Together will have the chance to craft multiples as the Mandrake will respawn over time. Take note, players can often find a Pan Flute by Glommer, so technically you will always have access to two Pan. Flutes. The Pan Flute is most notable for clearing out hoards of Tallbirds, for shaving Beefalo, or for killing seasonal giants like the Deerclops, Moose/Goose, Antlion and Bearger. While mobs will wake up after being attacked the first time, players can essentially put a large mob to sleep in time to place Gun Powder beneath them and ignite it to take them down quickly. While not as useful in my opinion, the Pan Flute can be used in tandem with a Feather Hat or Wickerbottom’s Birds of the World in order to summon birds and put them to sleep in hopes of farming a large sum of Morsels or Feathers. I would recommend using a Boomerang instead as the Pan Flute is much more useful against tough Mobs. Pan Flutes have 5 uses. ONE-MAN BANDThe One-man Band requires 4 Nightmare Fuel, 2 Pig Skin and 2 Gold Nuggets to prototype and can be used to befriend a maximum of 9 Pigs of Bunnymen in order to help fight Mobs or chop down Trees or mine Boulders. The One-man Band lasts for 3 minutes and will drain the player’s Sanity by 2 per minute, though it will also drain a player’s Sanity by 25 per each follower. At most a player’s Sanity will drain by 227 Sanity per minute. Players will not be able to keep Pigs or Bunnymen befriended once they take off the One-man Band unless they choose to feed them, though a player can take off the One-man Band regularly in order to keep their Sanity higher and to save the durability of the One-man Band as followers will still follow for a few seconds. It should be noted that Pigs and Bunnymen cannot be summoned out of their respective houses if they are not already out for the day, meaning that a player needs to be aware of their time sensitivities. Players in Hamlet will also be able to befriend Pig Trades and Guard Pigs, though Guard Pigs tend to be the better option as they are stronger than most other Pig variants. Players in Don’t Starve Together will also be able to create Music Box Hutch when in the caves, making the One-man Band a fairly versatile object. While I can’t say that I often find myself relying on the One-man Band, I have to say that there are a number of perks it can provide a player, especially if they are playing in a solo world and need some assistance killing stronger Mobs. Just make sure you have a lot of Sanity items like Jerky on hand, cause man do you go crazy quickly, especially if you have a lot of followers. NIGHT LIGHTA Night Light requires 8 Gold Nuggets, 2 Nightmare Fuel and 1 Red Gem to prototype and provides players with 175 seconds of light similar to that of a Campfire. Players will not be able to gain any warmth or cooling from Night Lights, though they can still come in very handy if players wish to light up areas of their base in order to work at night. Night Lights require a total of 3 Nightmare Fuel to fuel and will unsurprisingly drain a player’s Sanity by 3 per minute, though oddly Willow will instead gain 8 Sanity per minute while standing next to a Night Light. Players can alternatively use a Fire Staff to fuel Night Lights as each hit from the Fire Staff will fully fuel a Night Light, providing it with 175 seconds of light, though players should note that during Summer, Night Lights have the chance to smoulder, essentially allowing them to ignite and light for the 175 seconds as Night Lights will not actually burn down from being smouldered. Players are encouraged to set up Night Lights in the Caves and Ruins as there are a number of opportunities for players to farm out Nightmare Fuel. Other than Mushlights, Night Lights are the only free standing light structures players can depend on to light up their world regularly. It must be noted that Night Lights can be extinguished when placed near an Ice Flingomatic, Luxury Fan or doused using Ice. LIFE GIVING AMULETThe Life Giving Amulet requires 3 Gold Nuggets, 2 Nightmare Fuel and 1 Gem to prototype and will provide players with perks. Not only will wearing the Life Giving Amulet provide players with 2 Sanity per minute (without affecting its durability), players will also be able to convert Hunger to Health if they have taken damage, receiving 5 Health for the exchange of 5 Hunger every 30 seconds for a maximum of 20 uses. Upon dying, if the Life Giving Amulet has more than 5% durability, players will be resurrected immediately in single-player, though players in Don’t Starve Together will have to haunt the Life Giving Amulet in order to resurrect. Upon resurrecting players will receive the following penalties: Health will be set to 50 Hunger will be set to 2/3rd of the character’s maximum Sanity will be set to 1/2 of the character’s maximum Players will not receive a penalty that requires a Booster Shot, meaning that a player will be able to heal themselves to full immediately upon resurrecting. It should be noted that a Life Giving Amulet will sink to the bottom of an Ocean in Don’t Starve Together, meaning that players will be unable to resurrect themselves, though this is not a problem in single-player. CHILLED AMULETThe Chilled Amulet requires 3 Gold Nuggets and 1 Blue Gem to prototype and is considered a more aggressive amulet players can craft. Similar to the Life Giving Amulet, players will be able to gain 2 Sanity per minute when wearing it at no cost to the Chilled Amulet’s durability, though players will also be cooled off for a maximum of 6 minutes. While wearing the Chilled Amulet, players will have the chance of freezing enemies that attack them, though this will cost the Chilled Amulet 3% of its durability, essentially meaning that a player can freeze a mob 33 times before the Chilled Amulet shatters. Note that larger mobs may require a few attacks before they are frozen, acting very much like an Ice Staff would. ICE STAFFThe Ice Staff requires 1 Spear and 1 Blue Gem to prototype and will provide players with the ability to freeze attacked targets. In order to use the Ice Staff players will have to surrender 1 Sanity per use, which isn’t actually much in the grand scheme of things. That being said, players will have to use 5% of the Ice Staff’s durability when using it, essentially meaning that the Ice Staff has a total of 20 uses. As mentioned earlier, players may have to hit a mob a number of times before it is frozen, especially if they are larger. This means that players may need a number Ice Staves if they hope to freeze a large mob, especially repeatedly. In Don’t Starve Together, some mobs will have diminishing returns when it comes to being frozen, meaning that a mob will need to get hit with more ice blasts in order to be frozen. Each resistance will increase the amount a player needs to freeze the mob by 25% also reducing the amount of time the mob will be frozen for, down to a minimum of 0.1 seconds. The Ice Staff is by far one of the most useful Magic items players can have on hand as it can save them from really tricky situations, especially when paired up with Gun Powder. The following is how many hits it requires for players to freeze specific Mobs: Unable to Freeze: Lureplants Eyeplants Rock Lobsters Depths Worms Chester Baby Beefalo Blue Hounds Ghosts Shadow Creatures Packim Baggims Tiger Sharks 1 ATTACK USING AN ICE STAFF:Bee Birchnutter Butterfly Catcoon Crabbit Crow / Redbird / Snowbird / Canary Doydoy Flup Frog Grass Gekko Moleworm Mosquito No-Eyed Deer / Red Gem Deer Parrot / Parrot Pirate / Seagull / Toucan Poison Mosquito Rabbit / Beardling Rabbit Smallbird Wobster 2 ATTACKS USING AN ICE STAFF:Ancient Guardian Batilisk Beefalo Beehive Bottlenosed Ballphin Bunnyman / Beardlord Buzzard Clockwork Bishop Clockwork Castle Clockwork Knight Critters Dogfish Fishermerm Floaty Boaty Knight Blue Gem Deer Glommer Gobbler Grumble Bee (diminishing returns) Hound Jellyfish MacTusk / Mactusk N’ Son Merm Monkey Pig / Guardian Pig / Werepig / Elite Pig (diminishing returns) Prime Ape Sea Hound Slurper Slurtle / Snurtle Snake / Poison Snake Spider / Spider Warrior / Spitter / Cave Spider Spider Den (Tier 1) Splumonkey Stink Ray Swordfish Smallish Tallbird Volt Goat Wildbore 3 ATTACKS USING AN ICE STAFF:Beefalo Blue Whale / White Whale Crab King (though different difficulties will take more hits) Ewecus Houndius Shootius Koalefant / Winter Koalefant Krampus Lavae Extra-Adorable Lavae Spider Den (Tier 2) Spider Queen Tallbird Tentacle / Baby Tentacle / Shadow Tentacle Warg Water Beefalo 4 ATTACKS USING AN ICE STAFF:Antlion (diminishing returns) Bearger Bee Queen (diminishing returns) Deerclops Klaus (diminishing returns) Red Hound Moose/Goose / Mossling Spider Den (Tier 3) Toadstool (diminishing returns) Treeguard / Palm Treeguard 5 ATTACKS USING AN ICE STAFF:Pengull 6 ATTACKS USING AN ICE STAFF:Deerclops (in single-player) 8 ATTACKS USING AN ICE STAFF:Dragonfly (diminishing returns) 12 ATTACKS USING AN ICE STAFF:Enraged Dragonfly (diminishing returns) DRIPPLE PIPES (SHIPWRECKED)Dripple Pipes require 2 Nightmare Fuel, 1 Rope and 1 Horn and will cause Rain to start to fall in most seasons, except for Winter, where Snow will fall instead. Rain will fall for a total of 4 minutes, or half an in-game day. Dripple Pipes have 5 uses and will not be able to be used in Caves or Ruins. ROOT TRUNK (HAMLET)The Root Trunk requires 3 Boards, 2 Flytrap Stalks and 1 Bramble Bulb to prototype and will provide players with 12 inventory slots. Root Trunks work fairly similar to an Ender Chest from Minecraft, allowing players to share inventory across the map, essentially allowing plants to travel without needing to carry items. It should be noted that players can destroy their Root Trunks without losing their items even if there is no other Root Trunk on the map. If a players has destroyed their only Root Trunk or it is engulfed in fire, their items will remain in limbo until another Root Trunk is constructed. Players should essentially store all of their most useful or rare items inside of a Root Trunk as they are the safest form of storage, though note that Root Trunks are not safe from Pogs as they can still open and steal items. OCUVIGIL (DON’T STARVE TOGETHER)The Ocuvigil requires 2 Boards, 1 Compass and 1 Purple Moonlens to prototype and is used as both a waypoint and a revealer for maps. Even if players have not explored an area (ie. have recently entered a world for the first time) they will receive a radius that reveals the “Fog of War” and will continuously load that part of the world, allowing players to monitor it from afar. Truthfully, the Ocuvigil is pretty useless, especially if players have mods that share maps across players. MOON DIAL (DON’T STARVE TOGETHER)The Moon Dial requires 2 Ice, 2 Moon Rocks and 1 Blue Moonlens to prototype and is the only way to track the Moon Cycle unless players are using a mod. Players will be able to track what phase the moon is in bu how high the water levels are as when the moon is a Full Moon the water will begin overflowing. Moon Dials will also emit light as the moon grows in size, essentially being another way to track what phase the moon is in. BOOKS (WICKERBOTTOM EXCLUSIVE)Wickerbottom may have access to a number upon spawning into the Constant, but as I covered in the Alchemy Engine article, Wickerbottom has to stand next to certain crafting stations to access some of her books. In most versions of Don’t Starve players will only gain access to one book, though in Shipwrecked they will be able to prototype two. The following are the two books players will have access to when standing next to a Prestihatitator, Piratihatitator or Hogus Porkusator. SLEEPYTIME STORIESSleepytime Stories requires 2 Papyrus and 2 Nightmare Fuel to prototype and will cause animals and all other players in the area to sleep. Sleepytime Stories has 30 range, which is twice the range of the Pan Flute and has 5 uses. Sleepytime Stories costs Wickerbottom 33 Sanity. JOY OF VOLCANOLOGY (SHIPWRECKED)Joy of Volcanology requires 2 Papyrus and 2 Obsidian to prototype and allows players to spawn in 4 Dragoon Eggs. As players will not have access to Wickerbottom’s On Tentacles book, they will want to craft Joy of Volcanology. Joy of Volcanology has 5 uses but does not cost Sanity. It should be noted that Dragoon Eggs from Joy of Volcanology may cause Lava Pools to spawn, leaving behind Rocks, Ashes and Charcoal. Players can extinguish Lava Pools with Ice which will leave Obsidian behind instead, allowing WIckerbottom players to gain access to a steady supply of Rocks, Charcoal and Obsidian. How do you use shadow manipulator? The Shadow Manipulator is the tier 2 Magic station which unlocks all of the Magic Tab recipes. It requires a Prestihatitator to prototype and costs 3 Living Logs, 1 Purple Gem, and 7 Nightmare Fuel to craft. Prototyping an item using the Shadow Manipulator will increase Sanity by 15.
How do you use the ice staff in don't starve? It requires 1 Spear and 1 Blue Gem to craft and a Prestihatitator to prototype. It may also be found in an Ornate Chest or dropped by an Ancient Pseudoscience Station when struck with a Hammer. When used, the Ice Staff temporarily freezes a Mob usually within 1-4 blasts.
How do you use a nightlight in don't starve? The Night Light provides light, similar to a Campfire, but can only be fueled using Nightmare Fuel. One Nightmare Fuel provides light for 175 seconds. The Night Light's maximum light output requires 3 Nightmare Fuel. It does not provide warmth, so it will not prevent Freezing and does not cause Overheating.
What does the Top Hat do in don't starve? It restores 3.3 Sanity per minute while worn. The Top Hat can also be used to create the Prestihatitator, which is a Tier 1 Magic research station. The Top Hat can be given to a Pig or Bunnyman to wear, which provides no effect. It will still lose durability while worn.
