I always used farmers (zombified and cured) and setup melon/pumpkin farms, but I’m not sure if that’s the most effective way. On the last server I played on we setup an iron farm in the spawn chunks that was very full, and since we didn’t even get the melon and pumpkin farm to work I traded iron with armorsmiths, toolsmiths and weaponsmiths for emeralds and it worked very well. On the server I’m currently on the guy in charge of villagers had a horrible system without zombification, and it was more early game. That was in a desert village so we used glass panes, and had to grind more
I was bored and researched some random shit yesterday and found out that shepherds trade wool. Since wool farms are the easiest things ever and you get tons of wool quickly from them, that seems like a good option right? Over night I had like 5 stacks from a single sheep, if you’d zombify one that would be very good right?

Ok so we can all agree that trading with villagers is a pretty good way to get op stuff (enchanting books) but discovering the best method to get emeralds is a pain. When i first learned more about trading my method was to make a carrot farm and trade for emeralds, takes to long in my opinion.Second method which given the right terrain might be the best early method to get emeralds.I'm talking about masons. For 10 clay you get 1 emerald,a river has a lot of clay so it's a got early method but you can't really farm this method since clay is a finite resource but i have used this method to get a diamond armor set with mending and protection 4 in about 3 hours on a vanilla SMP that i played with my friends and my hardcore world with the right conditions and with only one mason.Fletchers are also pretty good and i use this method to get emeralds when there isn't a big river near by but it takes 32 sticks for one emerald so the inventory space will be a problem but at least you can replant trees, recommend more then one Fletcher and Mason because you don't have to wait for the price to drop down.I didn't really use any other strategies early game but mid game i got sick of these methods,i wanted a automatic method to get emeralds so i got a few tool smiths and also made a automatic iron farm.If you have the resources and patience to make a iron farm this might just be the best method. The design that i used (here is a link to the farm that i used //www.youtube.com/watch?v=0L_optIDx2U)is surprisingly compact and efficient and it got me a lot of emeralds but is still a pain to get the villagers and the zombie in.Do you guys know a method that takes a very little time to get the materials to trade, that is efficient, that isn't a pain to build and isn't finite ?My best bet is that the Shepherd is the best since the wool on the sheep appears fast and it only takes 18 wool for one emerald, but i haven't really tried it.Also i know that curing villagers is a thing but i'm looking for a very early method and it takes quite a bit of time to get the potions and gapples.
Raid Farm, so worth having. Once you set it up it is the easiest, the setup isn't though. Just AFK there over night, voila you're a millionaire. Also provides redstone, totems and you can get villager gifts.

Farmers in general are by far the best villager for getting emeralds because they offer up to 4 different crop trades. Pumpkins and melons are the best because you can auto farm them super easily and you only need to cure them once to get them down to 1 per emerald. Carrot and potato trade is also great because you can make auto villager crop farms for those. You need to cure them several times to get the price down to 1 crop for 1 emerald, though.

Farmers are by far the easiest, thou fletchers are better early game and if zombified are insanely OP because 1 stick per emerald requires a very bad farm to get a lot of emeralds

Pumpkins are probably a good choice
They dont require any crafting steps, you just get the tradable item straight from the farm

Farmers, pumpkins, melons.

Sticks work well for early game since I usually clear the trees around my villages.
Late game, iron ingots from my iron farm.

Build a raid farm, i get 4-5 stacks of emerald blocks in a couple of hours

If you're looking for a good emerald trade, having an iron farm with a bunch of iron trade villagers is the best. Cause if you convert the villagers to zombies then cure them back to normal its 1 iron for 1 emerald. And with a good iron farm it's pretty much infinite emeralds
