Time Off for Voting
New York State Law authorizes registered voters to take paid time off from work to vote on the day of an election, provided that they have fewer than four consecutive hours between the opening of the polls and the beginning of their working shift, or between the end of their working shift and the closing of the polls.
An employee who requires time off to vote must notify their supervisor, or designee, by completing and submitting a Voting Leave Request Form not more than ten working days nor less than two working days before the day of the election.
For details on this policy, see Personnel Memorandum #7, 2019-20.

Rights of Nursing Mothers in the Workplace
DOE employees needing to express breast milk at work have the right to request a lactation space. All managers should proactively identify a lactation space that could be made available if an employee needing to express breast milk at work requests a lactation space through the process set forth in the policy. Personnel Memorandum #1, 2020-21, describes this process, as well as the requirements that this lactation space must meet. More information about the rights of nursing mothers in the workplace is available here.
