When the 52nd volume of the Now series was released in November 2014, it featured only one song -- Meghan Trainor's throwback pop "All About That Bass" -- that had reached the top of Billboard's Hot 100. Six selections, however, had already peaked within the Top Ten, including Jessie J, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj's "Bang Bang," Minaj's "Anaconda," Grande and Zedd's "Break Free," and Nico & Vinz's "Am I Wrong." As usual, the series attempts to provide a boost to some developing artists and under-performing singles, such as Alex & Sierra's "Scarecrow" and Eden XO's "Too Cool to Dance."

The U.K.'s Now series features timely selections of pop hits and provides a convenient way for casual pop fans to stay on top of the most popular singles. The sets are almost always naturally well-rounded, encompassing dance music, R&B, hip-hop, teen pop, and rock. And though they might expire, in a sense, since they're based on trends in pop music, they work as more than adequate snapshots of specific points in time. Now 52, released in 2002, includes Shakedown's "At Night," Christina Milian's "When You Look at Me," Doves' "Pounding," Ronan Keating's "If Tomorrow Never Comes," Sugababes' "Freak Like Me," and Mary J. Blige's "No More Drama."
