Owl House Season 2B episode 11

Just recently, a whole bunch of The Owl House season 2 episodes just dropped on Disney+. 6 of them in total. All of them were, without a doubt, great episodes that I’d give a 100% score to. However, certain episodes are, I feel, better than others. That’s why you all are getting a list of Ep. 11-16 ranked from from worst to best. You can check them out below:

Warning: spoilers for The Owl House season 2 Ep. 11-16 below. If you want to watch the comedy-horror shenanigans for yourself, stop here, and come back once you’ve escaped from Hooty the eldritch owl horror. You’ll know what I mean.

6. The Owl House Season 2 Ep. 11 “Follies at the Coven Day Parade”

Owl House Season 2B episode 11
I liked him better when he was just a silly parade float.

While “Follies at the Coven Day Parade” served as a great aftermath episode for “Yesterday’s Lie” (particularly with Luz projecting her own situation onto Kikimora), I feel like it’s the weakest of the batch of all the recently released The Owl House season 2 episodes. Not because that was anything particularly wrong with this episode though. It’s more that the other episodes just outdo it in terms of greatness. That’s unfortunately why this is 6th on this list. To summarize: it’s great, but the other episodes are just better. Especially in terms of character and plot development. That said, I do like the heavy Lumity shipping in this episode. The ending where Luz was finally opening to Amity about her family situation made me squeal in joy.

Some of you may ask about the Hooty reveal in this episode of The Owl House, and no, I shall not speak any further of that. No one should. For their own sanity.

5. The Owl House Season 2 Ep. 13 “Any Sport in a Storm”

Owl House Season 2B episode 11
Never thought I’d see Hunter hanging out with everyone like a normal kid.

I have to admit: “Any Sport in a Storm” was a pleasant surprise for me. Not that Hunter got character development. That part of The Owl House was almost certainly going to happen. No, I was surprised that his character development was so…fluffy. I mean it. Hunter was actually adorably hilarious in this episode. It’s why I put this episode in 5th place on this list. Seeing Hunter’s surprisingly adorable character development was great, and it’s only how much better the other episodes are that this didn’t make it higher up on the list.

4. The Owl House Season 2 Ep. 15 “Them’s the Breaks, Kid”

Owl House Season 2B episode 11
Seeing young versions of everyone is always a treat.

With the limited amount of time Disney gave Dana Terrace to finish The Owl House, you’d think that there wouldn’t be room for storytime, right? Au contraire, ladies and gentlemen. Terrace found time in this episode for storytime from Eda. Specifically: she tells the tale of how she met Raine Whispers to a very interested Luz, King, and Hooty. The fact that we get to see Eda, Lilith, and Raine (along with a bunch of other cameos) as kids for an entire episode is why I place this episode at 4th place on this list. There are a few episodes that beat that, but the list is getting noticeably shorter now.

3. The Owl House Season 2 Ep. 12 “Elsewhere and Elsewhen”

Owl House Season 2B episode 11
Seeing Lilith again alone puts this episode pretty high up on my list.

Seeing Lilith and her adorable antics again after a fairly lengthy bus trip is great. Having her go on a time-traveling adventure with Luz to meet up with Philip Wittebane in the past makes it even greater. The reveal that Philip Wittebane is completely amoral and is totally screaming “Pure Evil” (not to mention giving huge hints that he’s Emperor Belos in his younger days) pushes it all the way up to 3rd place on this list for me. The combination of humor, drama, and plot developments here is just an almost perfect combo. Only 2 other episodes beat this wonderful combo.

2. The Owl House Season 2 Ep. 14 “Reaching Out”

Owl House Season 2B episode 11
Seeing Luz that depressed is somehow more disturbing than Hooty could ever be.

I think aside from the episode where Luz confessed her love to Amity and started dating her, “Reaching Out” is the most Lumity episode of The Owl House season 2 so far. It’s like the entire episode was Luz and Amity getting over their final hang-ups, and finally sharing their deepest and darkest secrets with each other. The Lumity pairing got a huge jump in closeness in this episode because of that, and this is why I put this episode in 2nd place on my list. Really, only one other episode beats this episode in my mind, and it’s a doozy of an episode.

1. The Owl House Season 2 Ep. 16 “Hollow Mind”

Owl House Season 2B episode 11
The nightmarishness only gets worse from here on out.

Holy shit, “Hollow Mind” is one doozy of an episode. Luz and Hunter being confronted with the unrelenting dark horror of Emperor Belos’ mind is what puts this episode of The Owl House season 2 in 1st place on this list for me. You only get brief snippets of comedy to break up the horror in this episode, and you come to relish them due to how dark it gets. This is definitely a case where when Dana Terrace gets dark, she doubles down on it. The official reveal of Emperor Belos’ true identity as Philip Wittebane is just icing on the cake for this excellent episode, and really, it’s not that big of a reveal given all the hints in “Elsewhere and Elsewhen”.

The only thing I’m sad about is thinking about how much better this all would’ve been if Disney hadn’t decided to just cancel The Owl House after a mere 3 seasons.
