Good info, thanks. I agree the 17 seems low and given they put a 17 on originally tells me they went with a standard option, probably cheaper. My RPMs are 5500-5600, but probably don't get higher given that we are at 3000ft+ above sea level with the lakes we're going to. Show

December 22, 2009 This new multispecies model from Tracker combines open-deck versatility with the security of raised gunwales and the big-water ability of a deep-V hull. Wide and deep for its size, the hull gains added stability from integrated reverse chines and provides class-leading storage capacity. The driver’s console leaves room on the centerline for a large in-deck rod locker, capable of handling six to eight casting rods. (A dual-console version with walk-through windshield is also available.) Storage abounds in a variety of side and in-deck lockers. There are two aerated livewells: a 19-gallon in-deck well forward and a 28- gallon variety aft. The WT stands for Walk Through, meaning she has dual consoles with high windshields that can be “walked through” to get to the bow and back into the cockpit. She’s not a new boat, but she’s been tweaked through the model years for keeping up with the times. What is timeless is her continuing ability to bring the game to the fish when others are sitting at the dock. Aluminum vs. FiberglassTracker boats are all aluminum construction. There are a lot of advantages to this, the most obvious being light weight. This 16’11” (5.16 m) boat weighs in at only 1,385 lbs. (628 kg). Add a trailer and a 90-hp Mercury off the transom and she has an estimated towing weight of 2,794 lbs. (1,267 kg), making her towable by even the lightest tow rated vehicles. Not only can she be easily trailered, but in fact, it can live on a trailer when it’s not on the water. This means no marina costs and a reduced maintenance expense, a combination that can save thousands of dollars a year. With her standard trailer that includes a swing-away tongue, her stored length is 19’7” (6.0 m), easily accommodated in most garages. Another direct advantage to aluminum construction is that considerably less power is required to achieve the same speed in a heavier boat. Well BuiltWe’ve done extensive factory inspections at Tracker and came away well impressed with the quality and level of strength and quality that goes into each Tracker boat. These boats feature all-welded aluminum construction. The two halves of the hull each start out as a single sheet of 0.100 5052 Marine Alloy aluminum that gets bent in various jigs to form the shape of the hull. Each step thereafter serves to add to its strength. A welded in keel support is added where the two sections are joined. At the stern there’s a box beam with all-aluminum transom. A longitudinal stringer system is built outside the boat, and then hydraulically pressed into the hull before being welded into position. At the bow, there are added “chevrons” strategically placed to add strength where the hull takes the most pounding. Traverse bulkheads add support for the decking. Finally, foam is injected into the void areas for stiffening the hull, adding flotation and sound reduction. Marine-grade vinyl is added to the cockpit while “fishing-friendly” cut pile carpet is added to the elevated casting decks. Fishing-friendly means that this carpeting isn’t the type that will snag hooks. In fact, we’ve taken hooks and dragged them right across this carpeting in other tests with no snags whatsoever. Reverse ChineBelow the waterline, the Pro Guide V-175 WT hull is a combination of a traditional deep-V with a 20-degree deadrise, and a reverse chine. As the bottom runs out toward the chine it flattens horizontally and then, at that chine, it hooks down slightly. This brings a number of advantages. The first is that it creates a larger planing surface than the traditional deep-V, and this allows the vessel to come onto plane quicker, with less power. However, the main handling difference is noticed when a reverse-chine boat goes into a sharp corner. With a reverse-chine bottom, the chine bites into the water more and the boat carves through the turn without sliding across the water. Also more of the boat is submerged as the chine is forced down into the water during the turn. This increases buoyancy resulting in a turn that is generally flatter than with a traditional bottom. For fishing, the same physics makes the boat more stable while at rest, since as weight is applied to one side, more of the hull is forced into the water, increasing the buoyancy along the weighted side. So standing on a casting platform will have a reduced inherent hazardous side. Fishing-Friendly FeaturesThe Pro Guide V-175 WT comes as a complete package, ready to fish. And we do mean ready to fish. StorageA center mounted rod box holds 6' to 8' (1.83 m to 2.44 m) rods. There are two additional lockable top-loading rod boxes in the cockpit that can hold rods up to 8’ (2.44 m). Rod hold-down straps are secured to the foredeck. Between the console seats is a huge in deck storage compartment. FishingThere are two aerated livewells, a 19-gallon (71.92 L) aerated bow livewell and a 29-gallon (109.78 L), 50" (1.27 m) aerated stern livewell. Both are compartmentalized and molded to fit a removable bait bucket. Each has an adjustable aerator head and a timed recirculating system and pumpout. A Trolling Motor is Also Standard Now.The Pro Guide V-175 WT comes with a Minn Kota PowerDrive 55-lb. thrust 54” (137 cm) shaft trolling motor with foot control. The wiring for the control box runs through a hatch in the bow to keep from getting underfoot. The motor mounts to a reinforced and through-bolted base at the bow. A separate battery is provided for the trolling motor. ComfortFor comfort while fishing, there are no less than six pedestal seat base locations to install two deluxe fishing seats with composite frames. Now the aft positions for the pedestal seat leaves little to no legroom, so they’re not much use if a third person comes aboard. However, a solution would be to move the seat to the center position and now three people are good to go. Otherwise, those aft positions simply serve as a place to store the seat while underway. The two seats feature 360-degree swivel capability and can be locked into position. They also fold down and are mounted to 2 3/8” (6.0 cm) pedestals. TrailerWell we did say ready to fish, and that means ready to take to the water too. The Tracker Pro Guide V-175 WT comes complete with a trailer that is custom fit to the boat. A wise move for those with a lot of gear and heavy friends might be to upgrade to the 115 4-stroke ($1,000) which should also bring the performance up towards 40 to 42 mph. Pricing and OptionsStandard pricing for the Tracker Pro Guide V-175 WT is $21,995 with the 90-hp engine. That represents a bargain by anyone’s standards. Options are pretty straightforward and consist of a number of canvas cover solutions. However, there are some to consider that will make life on the water a bit easier.
