Sam Jones III has departed Spike TV sitcom Blue Mountain State.
TV Series Finale reports that he will not reprise his role as football player Craig Shilo in the forthcoming second season.
Actress Gabrielle Dennis, who played Shilo's girlfriend Denise, has also apparently left the series.
Jones previously played Pete Ross on Smallville until his character was axed in the third season. He later made a guest appearance in the seventh season episode 'Hero'.
The actor is currently involved in a number of legal difficulties. In 2009, he was charged with drug possession and recently threatened to sue Vivid Entertainment boss Steve Hirsch to prevent the release of a sex tape filmed with Playboy playmate Karissa Shannon.
Blue Mountain State returns to Spike on October 20.
[Blue Mountain] ‘State’ follows the antics of three freshman at a big football-centric Midwestern university. Of its star players, Sam Jones III (teammate Craig Shilo) is not expected to return for season 2 due to his arrest in October. The ex-’Smallville’ actor (Clark Kent’s BFF) was detained by federal authorities on charges of alleged possession and intent to sell 10,000 oxycodone pills. No word yet on whether his role will be recast. The ’Blue Mountain State’ football team will play another season, as Spike TV has renewed the sitcom, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
So he transferred to Georgia Tech. Which is definitely not as good of a school as BMS. I already know Sam Jones(his actor) was arrested. But why would he leave a great school like BMS? No one was coming after him, no one was stopping him, it was his team. Other than Denise, he really had no reason to leave. And I know they had to write him out, just be aware.

Career[edit]
In his early acting career, Jones played Pete Ross on the first three seasons of the television series Smallville, based on the early years of Superman, after which he left before season 3's final episode, but returned as Pete Ross in the season 7 episode "Hero". He left the series to film Glory Road. Jones has also appeared on the television shows The Practice, ER, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and 7th Heaven. He appeared with former Cosby Show actress Raven-Symoné in the 2006 Lifetime movie For One Night. Jones also played Craig Shilo in Spike TV's Blue Mountain State. Most recently, Jones joined the cast of writer/director Chris Blake's (a.k.a. Christopher Blake Johnson) indie horror film, All Light Will End, alongside Andy Buckley and John Schuck.[1]
In 2014, Jones completed filming the movie Of Fortune and Gold. In 2016, Jones had a role in the film Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland based on Spike TV's Blue Mountain State as the character Craig Shilo.
Personal life[edit]
In 2010, a sex tape leaked with his then model girlfriend Karissa Shannon. It was reported that pair initially tried to block the release of the sex tape,[2] for some time, but after striking a deal,[3] the tape was released on DVD by Vivid Entertainment called: Karissa Shannon Superstar.[4] In 2011, Jones and Shannon released a song entitled "Juice and Vodka"; once available on iTunes, currently available on TMZ[5][6] a part of the Kam3 album.[7]
Legal issues[edit]
Jones was convicted of conspiracy to possess illegal drugs with the intent to distribute. The incident was part of a DEA sting operation.[8] On December 16, 2010, Jones pleaded guilty to conspiracy and on June 22, 2011, Jones was sentenced to 366 days in federal prison and three years' probation. On December 6, 2011, Jones began serving his sentence at the Lompoc Correctional Complex in California. He was released on October 12, 2012 after serving 10 months. He has since returned to acting.
