STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Mary Mara, whose extensive acting career saw her play roles in hit TV shows like “ER,” “Criminal Minds” and “Ray Donovan,” died Sunday morning in an apparent drowning incident, said New York State Police.
Police responded to a home bordering the St. Lawrence River in Cape Vincent, N.Y., at around 8:10 a.m. on June 26, the police said in a statement. The area sits near the United States and Canadian border not far from the mouth of Lake Ontario.
The 61-year-old Syracuse native was found by state troopers, firefighters and ambulance responders and was pronounced deceased at the scene, the statement continued.
Mara was visiting her sister’s summer home when the swimming accident occurred, her family told People Magazine.
A preliminary New York State Police investigation found no signs of foul play. Her body was transported to the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office and is pending an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
The police investigation remains ongoing.
