President Biden ordered all United States Flags to half-staff August 3-4, 2022 in honor of the passing of Representative Jackie Walorski. Walorski has represented Indiana's 2nd Congressional District as a Republican in the United States House of Representatives since 2013. She died Wednesday, August 3 in an automobile accident.

The White House has been slow to post a Presidential Proclamation to WhiteHouse.gov, but we have received notifications from most of the States' Governors directly referencing a Presidential Proclamtion they received from President Biden.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Gov. Mike DeWine ordered Ohio’s flags to be flown at half-staff Wednesday to honor those who have died of a drug overdose.

The mandate that Ohio’s public buildings and grounds fly U.S. and State of Ohio flags at half-staff from sunrise until sunset coincides with the state’s annual recognition of Ohio Overdose Awareness Day on August 31, approved when DeWine signed Senate Bill 30 into law in June 2021, according to a news release from the governor’s office.

“Ohio Overdose Awareness Day is an opportunity for all Ohioans to remember loved ones lost to an overdose and recognize those who have a substance use disorder and are working toward recovery,” DeWine said in the release.

In Franklin County alone, in 2021, according to an annual report from the county coroner’s office. That’s a 52% jump in the county’s drug-related deaths since 2017.

Fentanyl and cocaine-related overdoses accounted for the greatest number of fatalities, with fentanyl-related deaths increasing by 3% since 2020.

“Franklin County experienced a significant number of overdose deaths for yet another year,” the coroner’s report said. “During the past few years, the county has seen a dramatic increase in overdose deaths, which mirrors what is seen in several other counties across the United States.”

DeWine said several state agencies collaborated to launch a new website designed to boost access to the overdose-reversal drug naloxone, commonly called Narcan.

Governor DeWine signed Senate Bill 30 on June 8, 2021, designating Ohio Overdose Awareness Day on August 31 each year to remember those lost to overdose and to encourage action to prevent those deaths. Ohio Overdose Awareness Day is an opportunity for all Ohioans to remember loved ones lost to an overdose and recognize those who have a substance use disorder and are working toward recovery.

In honor of the life and service of Wyandot County Sheriff’s Deputy Daniel J. Kin, Governor DeWine has ordered that the flags of the United States and the State of Ohio be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout Wyandot County, the Ohio Statehouse, Vern Riffe Center, and Rhodes Tower. Flags shall remain lowered until sunset on the day of his funeral.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Some flags across Ohio will fly at half-staff to honor a Cleveland firefighter who was killed in a hit-and-run crash.

On Sunday, Gov. Mike DeWine ordered several public buildings and grounds– the Ohio Statehouse, Vern Riffe Center, Rhodes State Office Tower and those within Cuyahoga County — to lower their flags at half-staff out of respect for Johnny Tetrick, a 27-year veteran of the Cleveland Fire Department who died Saturday evening after being hit by a car on Interstate 90.

According to NBC4’s sister station Fox 8 in Cleveland, Tetrick was assisting at the scene of a rollover crash on the interstate around 8:15 p.m. when he was hit. Tetrick, who is survived by his wife and three children, reportedly died after being taken to the hospital.

All other public buildings and grounds throughout the state may fly the flags at half-staff at their discretion for the same time.
