CARMEL, Calif. — Toyota estimates the hybrid version of the redesigned 2022 full-size Tundra pickup, the i-Force Max, will see a 1- to 2-mpg improvement in city and combined driving over the non-hybrid counterpart, depending on how it is outfitted. The two-wheel-drive i-Force Max's mileage is rated 20 city/24
highway/22 combined, compared with the base gasoline SR trim's EPA-rated 18/24/20 and 18/23/20 for other trim lines. The four-wheel-drive hybrid is rated 19/22/21 in the Limited, Platinum, 1794 and Capstone trims and 19/21/20 in the Pro trim, vs. the gasoline SR and SR5's 17/23/19 and the other trims' 17/22/19. The EPA has not yet released fuel-economy figures for the i-Force Max.Japanese automaker releases new details on hybrid pickup, including new luxury Capstone trim.

The Tundra enters a small field of hybrid full-size pickups. The 2022 2wd Ford F-150 hybrid is an EPA-rated 25/25/25, and the Ram 1500 hybrid is rated 20/26/23.
The Japanese automaker's Detroit 3 rivals each has a fully electric full-size pickup in the pipeline.
Toyota, which in December committed about $70 billion to electrify its lineup by 2030 and plans to continue developing hybrids, has not announced plans for a Tundra EV.
Toyota expects the i-Force Max to account for about a quarter of Tundra sales.
At a media presentation here, Toyota touted the lifestyle-oriented i-Force Max's torque and towing capabilities. The hybrid, which offers up to 437 hp and 583 pound-feet of torque, has a diesel-like power curve that delivers torque at low rpm. The hybrid powertrain will be shared with the 2023 Toyota Sequoia SUV unveiled last week.
The i-Force Max starts at $53,995, including shipping. The Limited, the lowest trim level with the hybrid powertrain, is a $3,400 premium over the gasoline Limited.

The top-of-the-line Capstone, a hybrid-only trim with luxury appointments revealed last month, costs $75,225, including shipping.
The Tundra Capstone will feature a bevy of standard equipment and luxury flourishes, including 22-inch chrome wheels, a chrome grille, side mirror caps and tailgate inserts, automated running boards, a moonroof and leather-trimmed seats to complement its walnut-accented interior.
The i-Force Max is expected to begin arriving at dealerships in the spring.
