How to stream love island

That's a wrap! Love Island returned to our screens on Monday 6 June for season 8 of the smash hit show, with dates, disses and drama aplenty. From self-proclaimed 'Italian snack' Davide to daughter-of-football-legend-Michael Owen, Gemma, there's been enough turned heads to keep Twitter ablaze with memes. But now, it's all over and we have our new Love Island victors for 2022.

Should you have missed the past eight weeks of villa antics, you can watch every episode of Love Island 2022 (as well as all seven previous seasons) for free because the show is available to watch on free-to-air channel ITV. If you're abroad, you can simply use a good VPN service (like ExpressVPN) to watch Love Island from wherever you are.

Well, another season of summer love is over. Monday's live Love Island 2022 final brought in an average audience of 2.89m viewers on Monday evening and rounded out this year's series on an emotional high that I'm sure most people are satisfied with. I'm talking about the winners of course; the chaotic, passionate and oh so relatable relationship between – spoiler alert – Ekin-Su Culculoglu and Davide Sanclimenti. The pair, both 27 years of age, have won the £50,000 prize that unlike previous seasons was shared equally between the pair automatically.

Before host Laura Whitmore revealed the results of the public vote though, we got a glimpse into the last few hours of life in the villa for this year's couples. That started off with some professional salsa lessons as preparation for the Love Island 'Summer Ball', before the girls went off for a day of pampering to prepare themselves for the evening to come.

And what an evening it was: a stunning ceremony where all the Islanders dressed to impress on their last night together in the Mallorcan villa. Each confessed their love for their respective partners in the yearly 'speech' writing aspect of the ball with some tear-jerking, heartfelt moments – and a few laughs thrown in there too. A highlight came from eventual winner Ekin-Su, who noted how "the spark was instant" with her love Davide and, using a lovely turn of phrase, referenced Davide's home city to highlight their journey: "Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither were we".

Back on the live set, it was then announced Tasha and Andrew were the fourth placed couple, followed by Indiyah and Dami in third. Indiyah discussed with host Whitmore the 'unbreakable connection' between her and Dami as what kept them coming back to each other during their time in the villa. All that was left was for the winners to be announced: queue blaring music, falling streamers and a shocked Ekin-Su jumping into her beau Davide's arms while Gemma and Luca looked on a little shocked themselves.

It's fair to say Ekin-Su and Davide's victory was largely popular with viewers who have themselves fallen in love with their on-off, fiery relationship; one that feels incredibly real on a show where you sometimes can't tell who is faking it to the £50k prize.

In between all the drama of crowning a victorious Love Island couple, a short teaser for a fresh (but also, not really new) reality show that might soften the blow of Love Island 2022 ending and in fact, get viewers excited for the future: Big Brother is returning, this time on ITV. The cult reality TV show initially aired between 2000 and 2010 on Channel 4, before moving to Channel 5 in 2011 until 2018. Four years on, ITV producers are bringing the iconic reality TV show back with a "brand new look", and we are here for it.

But should you want to relive all the action from this year's Love Island, as well as any previous seasons, you can read on below for all the details on how to watch it wherever you are.

Love Island 2022: Are there any changes announced for Love Island 2022?

The biggest shakeup for Love Island 2022 is the demise of the show’s much-loved Mallorcan villa. Unavailable this year, the Sant Llorenç des Cardassar pad will be replaced by another property for the islanders to find love in, with lots of nooks and crannies into which contestants can ‘pull each other for a chat’ (that’s Love Island speak for profess their romantic interest or end a budding romance). Don’t fear though, the quintessential Love Island look (think neon cursive, a suitably dramatic fire pit, and white furniture galore) is staying. And the summer season’s home will still be Mallora, with its craggy coastline and crystal clear shallows (oh, how we’ve missed those sweeping drone shots).

The show is upholding its commitment to the duty of care it formally established last year: namely, eight therapy sessions on how to cope with the fame that the show catapults young people into (and its accompanying downsides) as part of a program of ‘comprehensive psychological support’. Nor are ties severed after contestants have lugged their suitcases down the villa’s driveway; the show’s producers have mandated ‘proactive contact’ with islanders a hefty 14 months after the summer season ends.

Love Island has upped the ante on social media too, rebranding as ‘The OGs of love’ on Twitter (@LoveIsland), with the bio reading assertively ‘We own love’. The account has been teasing fans with a drip feed of animated videos, with meatier trailers expected shortly. Love Island is the show that launched a thousand commentary accounts, so be sure to keep an eye on Twitter when the show airs for all the drama, hot takes and memeable moments.

Finally, the show has confirmed the gracious Laura Whitmore will be returning to host the eighth season of Love Island. Cries for former Radio 1 DJ Maya Jama to have a stint as presenter are yet to be heeded (perhaps something to do with the media personality’s rumoured engagement to Australian NBA star Ben Simmons).

Who will host Love Island 2022?

Laura Whitmore

Laura Whitmore will return to present the eighth series of ITV2s hit show as it returns to the island of Mallorca. There had been rumours that the ever-rising Maya Jama would take over hosting duties, but ITV have confirmed Whitmore will be appearing throughout the show as host once again – including to introduce new islanders and for any dramatic dumpings. This will be Whitmore’s second summer series following the 2021 edition, where she took over the reins following the death of her friend and colleague Caroline Flack.

Whitmore is likely to continue her hosting duties on the spin-off show Love Island: Aftersun every Sunday, where she interviews the latest celebrities to leave the villa, and other familiar celeb faces. She says part of what makes the show successful is the contestants’ feelings, “everything from unrequited love to getting ‘pied off’”. The stunning Irish Whitmore has earlier stated that the best part of Love Island is the lifelong relationships that people form.
