Anime where MC dies protecting girl

So, Im a big fan of action/romance animes where the mc does everything in his power to protect and save the girl/girls in it. I would prefer if it isnt a harem though, but if it is he shall at least choose one of the girls in the end. Not the usual bullshit where the mc cant decide and is completely dense. I want ACTUAL romance!

Whether the mc dies and stays that way, or comes back to life doesnt really matter. Fanservice is not a problem, but is definitely no need.

Examples of action/romance animes I've seen and enjoyed:
- Zero no tsukaima(the death of Saito almost made me cry manly tears)
- Sword art online
- Highschool dxd(Some may say that it doesnt meet my requirements considering he fantasizes about all the girls, but you still get the feeling that he wants Rias :) )
- Brynhildr in the darkness(Not the biggest amount of real romance, but a well executed scene where Murakami saves Kuroha)
- Oda nobuna no yabou
- Kiseijuu(Damn son, this anime is just perfect in every way!)

Well, I have one, but he dies in the last episode, and the romance is not super obvious. You can tell they love each other, but they don't kiss or anything. Would that be okay?

Another would be Noein (http://myanimelist.net/anime/584/Noein:_Mou_Hitori_no_Kimi_e). There's a character called Karasu who is driven entirely by his love for one of the other characters.

I haven't seen it (I'm reading the manga), but would Gunsligner Girl (http://myanimelist.net/anime/134/Gunslinger_Girl) work? It's about young girls whose bodies are fused with cybernetics so that they become incredible assassins. They have handlers (all of whom are male) and protect them, but the handlers protect the girls, too.

Might wanna check out an anime called Sola (http://myanimelist.net/anime/1965/Sola). Sounds about up your alley but I wont spoil you what becomes of the MC. Its a pretty quick watch too.

Tokyo Raven. I'd say its a reverse one. The girl is the one who died just to protect his childhood friend HaruTora. The storyline itself was good. I'm really hoping that you'll give it a shot. I wont spoil you but, i can say it's a cute romance and an action.

Also Zetsuen no Tempest

You gotta try Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet. I just finished it and it was way better than expected. I like exactly the same type of anime that you watch so i'm 100% sure you'll enjoy this one. Romeo and juliet story but less tragic and more parodic. The guy loves the girl a lot and he does everything that he can to make her happy (even fighting against stronger guys than him)
