Are Angela Yee and Charlamagne friends?

Last month, radio personality Angela Yee announced she’s stepping down from The Breakfast Club as she’s launching her new on-air show ‘Way Up’ in fall 2022.

Her new show will gauge how Yee connects with her listeners on hot topics around pop culture, news headlines, and much more. The show will be available across 30 iHeartMedia stations, including Power 105.1, and will be syndicated through Premiere Networks and stations across the country.

Many wonder how the hit morning show will look moving forward after learning the news, and it looks like a new co-host or two could be added to fill in the void.

In an interview with Madame Noire, Charlamagne Tha God shared how Yee “can’t be replaced,” but the “club has to expand.”

“I’m not going away. Envy is not going away. Angela Yee can’t be replaced, but we are a club,” he began.

“So that club has to expand, and we’re bringing in new members. So if people are wondering, will there be new members in The Breakfast Club? Yes. I don’t think it’s gonna be one person. It might be two.”

The interview that caused a divide between Charlamagne Tha God and Angela Yee is being discussed once again. It was in October 2019 when Charlamagne sat down with Gucci Mane, and during the conversation, the rapper had a few scathing insults about Yee. Following the interview, Angela Yee was upset that her The Breakfast Club co-host didn’t defend her honor, and she publicly stated in multiple interviews that she was no longer friends with Charlamagne Tha God.

Charlamagne was questioned about the controversy and asked to share his thoughts about his relationship with Yee. “I can definitely see why Angela Yee would feel that way,” Charlamange admitted. “It’s nuance to everything. For me, as a radio personality, I don’t feel like you should be responsible for something  that somebody else says in an interview… Gucci said that. That’s the way he felt because he was responding to something me and Angela did on the radio. I’m like, damn, that’s f*cked up, but he has a right to feel that way. That’s like Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith being mad at Angela Yee because she interviewed August Alsina and August said what he said about the whole entanglement thing. I just don’t think that as a personality, I should be held responsible for that.”

“The nuance of it is, me and Angela Yee have worked together for almost ten years. If me and Angela Yee weren’t necessarily on the best of terms I could see why she would feel [like] I’m not her friend. I literally just apologized to Angela Yee for that. Like, literally yesterday.” Charlamagne said he hadn’t’ seen Angela in months due to the pandemic, but it gave him time to reflect.

“I got genuine love for [Angela Yee and DJ Envy] because we created something historic. We built something historic,” he continued. “The Breakfast Club is literally going into the Radio Hall of Fame… Whether we are co-workers or friends, we’re bonded together forever.” Charlamagne also said that he knows people can sense the tension on The Breakfast Club, but he believes “it’s petty” for them to continue on this way. It looks like the relationship between Charlamagne Tha God and Angela Yee has yet to be repaired following the public disagreement between the two. Charlamagne and Angela have seemed to have had a close relationship over the years as co-workers, but in a recent interview with Variety, Angela says that the two are just co-workers.

In a past interview, Gucci Mane alleged Angela Yee was trying to “hook up” with him. ”You text me what hotel you was at,” Gucci said. Yee responded by saying that he was lying and that he must’ve had her confused with another girl. When Gucci would try to return to the show, it was reported that he was banned due to The Lip Service host feeling disrespected. “Wow! So you mean to tell me The breakfast club BANNED me 4 this? #TruthHurts #getoffmyd*ck,” the trapper wrote on Instagram.

Despite the fact that Gucci was banned from The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne Tha God had an interview with Gucci Man on his own platform. This led to Angela Yee feeling betrayed by her once, friend.

When Variety asked about the status of her relationship with Charlemagne she responded, “We’ve always been the same. We work together, it is what it is.” She continued by saying, “Like he said, we’re coworkers. A lot of people have jobs where they don’t necessarily love the people they work with, it’s just a part of life. That’s not the person you’d hang out with in real life.”

Yee said that she's had issues with Charlamagne in the past too.

"There’s been a lot of experiences. The important thing is I’ve always been a responsible person. As a woman, too, you have to be a lot stronger," she said. "Things are always happening that if you let it bother you, you’ll be mad all the time. It’s hard not to [take things personally]. It sucks because sometimes you feel so numb. You used to get so upset over things and feel so much, after a while sh*t keeps happening, you’re just numb to it now."
