Jan 26, 2021 With Remington being sold and their ammo division and specifically the Accutip appears to have been bought by Speers there is no decisive information that this particular sabot will ever hit the shelf again. Joined

Accutip is not only not the best, but it was second on the recommended list published by Savage. Number 1 was the Federal load with a Barnes Expander. They disappeared several years ago when Barnes would no longer sell Federal the bullets. About a year after that Remington announced a new load with the Barnes bullet, I never saw any on a shelf for sale
though. In my 220 the IFederals were head and shoulders more accurate than the Accu Tips. I killed some big heavy Michigan deer with them, worked well out to 200 yds.. Joined

They are called Remington Premiere Expander Featuring Barnes Bullet ( 250 Grain , 2 3/4 in ,1825 FPS , 20 GUA ) . They shot well out of my T/C Encore and my Savage 220. I don't know if they will ever be produced again.

Every barrel is different... My 870 likes the Hornady SST sabots (which I switched to after the Expanders disappeared.) Joined Feb 11, 2008 · 7,656 Posts

I thought the Accu tips were over priced myself.

I would be surprised if Speers did not continue with the Accu tip. It is a very popular sabot and they get top dollar for them. It would make a lot of sense to continue with them. Luckily I have at least 25 so I'm good for a few years. Joined Feb 11, 2008 · 7,656 Posts
I tried the SST and my 1100 doesn't like them. Joined Nov 12, 2016 · 644 Posts
I thought the Accu tips were over priced myself. in the past i did too but my savage 220 shoots them so good. i recently saw 4 boxes of the 3 inch accutips on gunbroker. winning bid for 20 rounds was 200 bucks !!!

My 220 shoots the tightest groups with Accu-Tips. The Federals are / were a close second. The Hornady's SSTs shot terrible in my 220, 3 to 4 inch groups. I have shot 2.75" Remington foster slugs and the groups were surprisingly tight, 2 to 2.5 inches at 100. Joined Feb 11, 2008 · 7,656 Posts
Right now finding any ammo is tough. Couldn't find my regular brand slug anywhere. Joined Mar 20, 2005 · 13,074 Posts
I keep thinking I should check out Ballistic Products and see what they have available to reload sabot slugs. It may be the only option in the near future. Lets hope whoever purchased Remington starts producing Accu-Tips but I doubt that will happen because so many states now allow straight wall rifle rounds the demand for slugs is dropping.
As for Federal sabot slugs I have not seen any for sale in years. Joined Jun 16, 2019 · 1,662 Posts

Always shot federal from mine. Cuts holes and kills deer. Never shot the Remington accutips. Just checked my notes. My 220 shot the best with the 3" Federals with the Barnes bullet but they stopped making them. I have 2 or 3 left that I'm hording. After the Federals it shoots the 3" Accutips but I cannot
find them. A few years ago I stumbled into a bunch of 2.75 Accutips and stocked up. You loose about 100 fps with the 2.75" but the accuracy is about the same as the 3" Accutips. Joined Dec 17, 2018 · 2,000 Posts

Stick with whatever works for you. All I'm saying is I was shooting Accu tips 5 or 6 years ago and then Joined Dec 17, 2018 · 2,000 Posts
Going to keep that in mind. Winchester’s have worked for me in the past. Joined Aug 25, 2017 · 11 Posts
Try the Federal trophy copper. They shoot under 1" at 100yds out of my 20ga encore. Joined Nov 12, 2016 · 644 Posts

My 220 will group both 2 3/4 and 3” Accutips, and @100 yards they both work well, but if I wanted to use 2 3/4 for longer ranges I would have to sight in higher. The 2 3/4 shoot about 2” lower than the 3” Did Remington stop making AccuTip?Remington accutips discontinued - Guns and Ammo - NJ Woods & Water.
What is the best slug for deer hunting? Both rifled slugs and sabots are ideal for the distances hunters aim to kill whitetails—typically inside 150 yards—in shotgun-only states. Their lethality has been well documented after decades of successful use in the deer woods.
Are Hornady SST slugs good? The SST® Shotgun Slug delivers true 200 yard accuracy and you'll achieve sub-2" groups at 100 yards. No other slug gun ammo can come close to the performance of the SST®.
Are sabot slugs more accurate? Its superior accuracy and harder punch on impact are both why the sabot slug outperforms the rifled slug over longer distances. It stays effective for hunting and self-defense at ranges up to 50% farther away!
