Asus maximus vii hero m.2 not working

I got all drivers updated and ran test again but still show at 766 for read and 745 for write. This telling me something bottle neck the speed maybe the Z97 chip set is not support higher speed.

So I've done my fair bit of googling for this, but all the results I find deal with things that aren't my issue. I know the bandwidth limitations of the motherboard m.2 socket and not looking specifically for drive recommendations, (drives or pcie-m.2 add in card) which were things the results mainly dealt with.

My issue: I have this motherboard already, and 2 different m.2 drives. A sata based drive, and a 950 pro samsung nvme, and neither one is detected in the motherboard BIOS nor under disk management in a fresh windows install if I boot from a 2.5" sata ssd (installed using this mobo with only the 2.5" plugged in, powered off, installed either m.2 drive, then booted into 2.5".

Motherboard has the newest non-beta driver available from Asus website (v. 3201) at default settings. So I don't know if either the socket is dead (no visual signs on board, very clean throughout and the 950 pro especially does get warm to the touch when board is powered on, indicating it is receiving power at least) or if im just missing a step somewhere.

Would ideally like to boot off of the 950 pro if i can get it to detect, but even being able to use the drive/socket at all and booting from a 2.5" would be progress. I guess I'm looking for advice from someone that has used this model motherboard with either a sata or nvme based m.2 drive.

EDIT: forgot to mention, both m.2 drives are known working, were pulled from other systems I had in use.

CPU: AMD Sempron 2400+ / MOBO: Abit NF7-S2G / GPU: WinFast A180BT 64MB / RAM: Mushkin DDR333 256MBx2 / HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 120GB

I add m2 ssd to my system at 2019 and install windows 10 on it. I was using without problem till yesterday.
Suddenly my computer stop working and I checked and found out my motherboard cannot see m2 ssd on bios settingsI can see other hdd's on bios settings. I only can enter bios settings with my computer right now.

What could be the reason? and how I can be sure if my motherboard or m2 ssd has a problem?

it seems to me NVME drives can just stop.
HDD at least normally give some clues but ssd can just stop. makes it hard to plan ahead, means you always need backups.

Does it have a 5 year warranty? so if nvme is bad, you should be able to rma it and get a replacement if you have proof of purchase

If BIOS can't see the NVME, its possible its the NVME itself to blame.

Only way to check would be put it in another PC and see if it can see it.

    Tried updating BIOS on motherboard?

I solved my problem. Everytime I plug off my computer bios settings keep reset to default themself. On bios settings I have changed PCIE3_4 settings to m2 mode my pc works.

For bios settings I will try to change bios battery. I hope it will solve my problem completely.

I changed my cmos battery. Everything is fine now.

How do I enable m 2 on my ASUS motherboard?

Go to your BIOS (usually by pressing F2 or Delete when your PC is booting). The exact process from here will vary depending on your motherboard. On our ASUS Z97 Pro Gamer board, we went to Advanced > Onboard Devices Configuration > M. 2 PCIe mode and changed the dropdown to 'Enabled'.

Why is my m 2 SSD not showing up in BIOS?

Check your BIOS to see if you've enabled M.2 slot to be bootable. Also, try disabling fast boot and CSM and setting Secure Boot to Other OS. Make sure you save your changes and restart before checking if your M.2 drive is now listed under boot priority.

How do I get my BIOS to recognize my m 2 SSD?

    Fix 2..
Restart PC and press F2/F8/Del to enter BIOS..
On the Main menu, expand "SATA Configuration"..
Select "Configure SATA as IED" and save the changes..
Restart the computer, and you'll see M. 2 showing up on your PC. If the M. 2 is an OS drive, continue with the steps in the next part..

How to enable M 2 in BIOS MSI?

2 In Msi Bios? Check the Onboard Devices Configuration option in the Advanced settings under BIOS. There is a column at the bottom of the PCI Express X4_3 Slot Bandwidth section that offers the option to set the number to “M”.
