We booked a 6 night /day stay at The Cove Atlantis based on their advertisement that The Cove, the Cain Pool and the Cove/Cain beach was exclusively "Adults Only" and "exclusive" to Cove Guests Only. In fact, The Cove is not an adults only lodging facility at the Atlantis, children are everywhere on The Cove property with the only exception being the "Cain Pool." When we questioned the staff regarding this, many staff acknowledged that it was supposed to be "adults only" and that we should take it up with management. We did ask and mentioned that their website specified that The Cove website stated that it was "adults only," their response was "oh, that's still on the website, that should be taken down." That's it, that's all and that's the way everything is treated by Atlantis, too bad, too sad, enjoy your stay. In fact, the overall attitude at Atlantis is "they don't care whether you had a choice to come there or not; you're there, you bought it, now make the best of it.." We paid an additional $250 per night to stay at an "adults only" facility. We have 4 grandchildren that we vacation with every year. We do not dislike children, but for 6 days we did not want to hear them crying, fighting, screaming or squealing in our ears. We paid an additional $250 per night to stay at an "adults only" facility. We have 4 grandchildren that we vacation with every year. We do not dislike children, but for 6 days we did not want to hear them crying, fighting, screaming or squealing in our ears. The only time we didn't hear the crying, whining, screaming and chattering of children was when we were in our $499 per day suite. Additionally, it must be stated: DO NOT EXPECT warm, friendly, happy and helpful staff; DO expect polite staff and nothing, nothing, nothing more. Too bad, too sad, enjoy your stay. The Bahamian taxi driver is friendlier and he/she doesn't get the mandatory 15% gratuity. I have no grudge to the mandatory gratuity, in fact, at the beginning we increased the mandatory gratuity by an added gratuity of 10% to 15% of the total bill; it didn't make service friendlier, faster nor more frequent. There is no beach service at the Cove beach; though there is a lot of wait-staff at the Cain pool, but that means nothing . . . the Cain pool service is not frequent nor fast . . . your first refreshment order is taken quickly, served slowly; and will not be repeated or seen again. I couldn't get drunk at the Cain because service was too infrequent and slow and I'm a 3 drink drunk. In 4 hours at the Cain pool, we were offered service 1 time; I had to place my lunch order at the bar and return to get it myself once it arrived 30 minutes later. BE PREPARED, accommodating the guest is not the norm. When we discovered that the numerous beach chairs, segregated by awning style (awninged cabana style or striped umbrella style), on the segregated beaches were stifling hot, we opted to spend the day on our Cove Beach, where it appeared the beach chairs had no awning/umbrella covering. These chairs (about 40-50) were stacked near but not at, the Cove private cabanas. When my spouse attempted to pull 2 chairs to the coastline of The Cove Beach, he was told to stop, we were not allowed to use the chairs as they were for the exclusive use of the private cabana rentals only and if we wanted a chair we would have to rent a cabana or lay on a towel in the sand. Others on the Cove beach (families with screaming, fighting children) were using the chairs having been able to successfully circumvent the Cove Chair Police. When questioned about this, my husband was told that they were not supposed to be using them, oh well, too bad, too sad, enjoy your stay. This was the one and only thing that we "asked" to be accommodated and we were told NO. We were not the only ones being ludicrously told "no:" At the exclusive Cove pool, called Cain, we watched in amazement and disbelief as a guard and staff refused access to a young couple, their elderly parent in a wheelchair, and their 1 young child who merely wanted to cut across the Cain as a shortcut. They were refused because children were not allowed at the Cain pool as it is "adult only." (Do not misunderstand, "adults only" in this sense does not mean "adult only" type activity such as nudity, partying, heavy petting, it means strictly age 18 and older). Atlantis, is exclusive alright. We gambled in the Casino to the tune of $1500 per day, we tipped an additional 10% to 15% to the mandatory 15% gratuity, we spent at least $300 per day on food. We didn't complain about the infrequency or the slowness of service; we didn't complain about the awful food at the Mosaic and the tinge of food poisoning that we endured from it; in fact we didn't even complain about the false "adults only" advertisement. Never have I been treated with such disinterest and pure disdain as a guest nor paid so expensively for a vacation that was a pure disappointment. We've vacationed in Cancun for $250 per night where we were treated like treasured guests being served food, beverage and even chocolate on the beach every day; we've been to Jamaica for $400 per night where our every whim was treated with happy, friendly, welcoming and ready wait staff with more food and hefty liquored drinks than we could eat or drink; we've been to Maui, one of the more expensive and most popular destinations, where we were treated at least warmly; all of these mentioned destinations at least recognize that their tourism economy depends on your tourism; they care that you come back. Atlantis treats you like a number in a long, long line of which there are hundreds of thousands of numbers; no doubt, you are just one of many, (too bad, too sad, have a nice day) that fell for their hype and advertisement; and they will continue to draw thousands more. It is unfortunate, that the Atlantis was our first visit to the Bahamas, the beaches and oceans are truly beautiful, but we will never, never go back, our dollars are better spent and warmly appreciated at too many other beautiful destinations that want us to come back.More
