NRMA driver training in Sydney's Northern Beaches focuses on low risk driving techniques to assist students to become safer drivers for life and not to just pass their driving test.

We appoint only the highest quality driving instructors, each chosen not only for their skills as professional educators but for their enormous passion for what they do. Regular re-training programs ensure that all NRMA driving instructors are fully abreast of changes in industry practice and modern education techniques.

Lesson pricing

Lesson length varies from 60 minutes to 3 hours depending on individual needs, with a 90 minute ongoing driving lesson highly recommended.

90 minute lesson (initial driving lesson) - $132

A requirement for learner drivers who have not previously had a lesson with an NRMA instructor. The 90 minute lesson is designed to allow appropriate time to determine the student's knowledge, current skill and confidence level so a tailored program can be developed to suit their needs.

60-180 minute lesson

For learner drivers who have already had an initial driving lesson with an NRMA instructor. Ongoing lesson duration can vary in length depending on lesson outcome requirements. Longer sessions can also assist in managing busy schedules. Your instructor can best advise on your individual requirements. All lessons regardless of duration are structured and tailored to suit individual needs.
60 min - $88 | 90 min - $132 | 120 min - $176

150 minute licence test - $220

For learner drivers who are taking their Ps test with the TfNSW in an NRMA car this special lesson provides time to calm your nerves with a warm up drive immediately preceding the test. Your instructor will wait while you take the test in the NRMA car and return home with you.

Safer Drivers Course - $140 including GST

Available to NSW learners under the age of 25 who have completed at least 50 hours on-road driving hours in their learner logbook. This course aims to help young learner drivers be safer on the road once they receive their provisional licence.

60-90 minute refresher - $88 per hour

Great for anyone who wants to freshen up their driving skills and update their road rule knowledge at any stage in their driving lifecycle. The refresher can also target specific areas of concern as requested.

60 minute older driver assessment - $95

Ideal if you're a little more confident in your driving skills and road rule knowledge. The 60 minutes is a formal driver assessment for drivers 85+ years to retain their unrestricted licence as part of the NSW licencing scheme.

90 minute older driver refresher and assessment - $142.50

Great for refreshing your driving skills, and updating your road rule knowledge. The instructor uses the first 30 minutes to gauge your skills and confidence, and identify areas that may require further improvement prior to the assessment. The remaining 60 minutes is a formal driver assessment for drivers 85+ years to retain their unrestricted licence as part of the NSW licencing scheme.

Conditions of booking: Customers must lodge their medical with TfNSW at least 48 hours prior to their scheduled assessment time or cancellation policy will apply.

These lessons are designed to assist drivers who have a minor physical or cognitive disability. These lessons should only be booked following consultation with an NRMA instructor who has completed a Certificate in Driver Rehabilitation.

Andrew Laurich

 As well as being a driving instructor, Andrew is a gifted musician and experienced music teacher. He brings a wealth of experience in guiding and mentoring young people to achieve their goals. Andrew has a gentle and structured approach to his work as an instructor and believes in creating a positive learning environment where learners feel encouraged to develop their skills as a safer driver.

Jackie Dadlani

Jackie has been an instructor since 2011 and joined NRMA in 2013. Jackie finds it extremely satisfying to teach his students how to become safe and competent drivers. Jackie enjoys sharing his knowledge and understanding of low risk driving techniques and communicating the importance of safe driving to his students. He has a relaxed and patient manner which creates a calm learning environment which assists in achieving good driving outcomes.

Justine Cook

Justine is a patient, calm and flexible instructor who has a passion for her local community of The Northern Beaches. Before becoming and instructor Justine developed a wealth of experience in customer and community service. She works hard to create an environment where the learner’s needs are clearly understood and makes every effort to meet those needs in every lesson.

Mike Turner

Mike first became a driving instructor in 1988 and has been with NRMA Driver Training since it was established in 2007. Mike also studied Medicine majoring in Podiatry. Mike brings a depth of knowledge and experience to his lessons that have helped thousands of students, including those with disabilities, to become safe and independent drivers over many years. Mike is also an Older Driver Assessor and is highly sought after for his compassionate and caring approach to this important role.

How many hours can a learner drive in one day NSW?

Usually, if you find information about this online, it will suggest that you are only permitted to drive for a maximum of 2 hours per day when you are completing practice drives. However, once you start researching some more, you'll find that there are no laws that explicitly state this.

Can you drive with L plates if not a learner?

Driving with L plates when not a learner it is not illegal to keep them on, but you could get pulled over by the police who may ask you to remove them. If you're a new driver, you may use the green probationary P plates instead to let other road users that you've just passed your test.
