This song is just awesome to me. It is such a wrong subject, but listening to the song gives me the chills every time they start screaming "I will lie awake, Lie for fun and fake the way I hold you, Let you fall for every empty word I say"

Elvis” is a depiction of Lacey’s worst nightmare. “I’m a big soccer fan and [Argentine striker Diego] Maradona is kind of like the Elvis of the soccer world,” he explained. “He was a star and then he let the world get to him, and then he was this washed-up figure, but he had these shining moments when his old magic came out. And I can totally see myself — maybe 10 years down the road — ending up the same way, becoming this washed-up figure who used to be great and who isn’t really anymore. I can’t imagine anything more awful than that.”

I woke up this morning and played that song on guitar while waiting for my toast, for the first time in months. It's a strange world of coincidence, man. I like how he changed the lyrics in recent years: "it's family night, all the kids eat for free"

I don't really see it as a "wrong" subject. You can tell from Jesse's tone and the way we words things that he's not proud of what he's doing. It's not so much "wow these girls are easy I don't even have to try" it's more like "wow what the hell am I doing sleeping with these vapid girls that do nothing to fix the loneliness that's so present in my life. I need love not sex."

It's such an under appreciated song. I very rarely see it mentioned on this subreddit. Really is an amazing song though. I think the lyrics are easily some of the most interesting on the album.

This is a pretty random post to see on the lower parts of my front page, but I'm happy to see it.

I love this song. On the album overall it might be 2nd or 3rd for me(behind Jaws Theme Swimming and maybe Good To Know...) but it's definitely a beautiful track. Possibly in my top 10 across all albums/demos.

I agree. It's always been my favorite on the album. Such a good mix of heaviness with a pop/punk influence. There's a killer part for everyone in there.

Couldn't agree more. Also one of their most underrated, sadly. I love songs that are subtle like this one, where you have to listen carefully to understand what it's really about.

It's a dream of mine to someday do this as a Emmylou Harris/Gram Parsons-style duet with someone. I think that would sound amazing.
