The horror feature The Black Phone is a highly anticipated scare-fest that will have viewers sleeping with the lights on for the foreseeable future. But can the subscribers of Netflix get in on this kind of magnificent cinematic terror?

Scott Derrickson made a name for himself in the horror game when he teamed up with Moon Knight actor Ethan Hawke for Sinister. After directing Doctor Strange and leaving the Multiverse of Madness sequel over creative differences, the infamous auteur teamed up once again with the prolific actor for The Black Phone.

The Blumhouse movie is based on the 2004 short story of the same title written by writer Joe Hill, and Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill wrote the screenplay. The story follows a serial killer named “The Grabber” who kills children in 1978. When he captures a boy named Finney, the latest victim finds a disconnected phone while trapped in a basement that allows him to hear the voices of the murderer’s previous targets.

With a runtime of 102 minutes, the motion picture with a budget of $18.8 million will most assuredly be an entertaining affair for all that witness the chilling tale. So far, The Black Phone has received generally favorable reviews from Metacritic and has earned an amazing score on Rotten Tomatoes.
