Can you evolve Porygon2 into Porygon

Many Pokémon that appear in other regions of the Pokémon series do not appear in the Hisui region in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. In some cases, these Pokémon may appear in Space-time Distortions, a new feature in this game that connects the player to various different time periods for a short duration.

Porygon, the Virtual Pokémon, does not quite fit the old-fashioned setting of Hisui. Having been created by Silph Co. in Kanto, this Pokémon has not yet been found in the Hisui region, though it later can be found in the Sinnoh region alongside its evolved forms, Porygon2 and Porygon-Z. However, thanks to the space-time distortions feature, Porygon can be found in Hisui, as well as the necessary items required to evolve it into its futuristic forms.

The Upgrade item, which is required to evolve Porygon into Porygon2, can be obtained in any space-time distortion, as well as through purchase at the Trade Post in Jubilife Village. The Dubious Disc, used to evolve Porygon2 into Porygon-Z, can also be found through the same methods. These evolution items drop very rarely in space-time distortions and are not guaranteed to appear, so it is safer to purchase them directly from the Trading Post to obtain Porygon’s evolutions.

The Upgrade and Dubious Disc can be used from the player’s inventory onto Porygon and Porygon2 respectively to evolve them. After using them, they will disappear from the player’s inventory, requiring them to obtain more copies of those items if they want to use them again.

Porygon can only be found in space-time distortions in the Crimson Mirelands, which spawn randomly and are not guaranteed to contain wild Porygon each time.

We've put together a brief guide for trainers looking to evolve their Porygon2 into a Porygon-Z in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

Porygon has always been one of the stranger species in Pokemon. This Pokemon is made entirely of computer code that has come to life—though the language is unknown. As such, all manner of items can cause this species to change its shape and form. For example, it evolves into Porygon2 using the Upgrade disc. That doesn't mean trainers should attempt to upload any old software.

Trainers can evolve their Porygon2 into a Porygon-Z by exposing it to the Dubious Disc. Like the Upgrade, this item is downloaded into Porygon2's body, causing its evolution into the unusual Porygon-Z.

The Dubious Disc is a futuristic item that is only obtainable via Space-Time Distortions or by purchasing it outright at the Trading Post. Trainers looking for more information about how to obtain this item should check out our Evolutionary Item guide.

The Dubious Disc is a silver CD-ROM disc housed in a plastic, transparent, magenta protective case. It is "overflowing with dubious data" and has an unknown manufacturer. Ultimately, exposing Porygon2 to this item has a mixed result, as it permanently causes the Pokemon's code to scramble.

Porygon-Z, also the "Virtual Pokemon" now has greater offensive capabilities and the ability to travel across dimensions—making it obvious how this species ended up in Hisui. However, its transformation has resulted in a slew of unorthodox behavior from it. Experts are still divided on whether or not this Pokemon counts as a true evolution rather than a mutation. Its Hisuian PokeDex number is #135.

Evolution method for the new Gen II Pokémon Poryon2, and how to get the Up-Grade.

Can you evolve Porygon2 into Porygon

Gen 2 is finally here and with it come not just new Pokémon like Porygon2, but new items like the Up-Grade, too.

That, in turn, means new methods for evolution: the Up-Grade was used for evolving Porygon2 in the main Pokémon games by having it hold the item when being traded - a mechanic that's not in Pokémon Go at all as things stand.

So with that in mind, how do you evolve Porygon into Porygon2, and likewise how do you get the Up-Grade in Pokémon Go?.

The answers to all that can be found below, but while you're here, it's worth noting that there are several other special evolution items which work in precisely the same way: the Sinnoh Stone, the Metal Coat for Steelix and Scizor, the Dragon Scale for Kingdra, the Sun Stone for Bellossom and Sunflora, and the King's Rock for Slowking and Politoed.

How to evolve Porygon into Porygon2 in Pokémon Go

Can you evolve Porygon2 into Porygon

Porygon evolves into Porygon2 in the main Pokémon series via held-item trading, much the same as for other Gen 2 Pokémon like Steelix, Politoed, and Kingdra.

Again, in a similar fashion to those Pokémon, in Pokémon Go the method is different: you'll simply need the same evolutionary item, in this case the Up-Grade, and the right amount of Candy, to evolve your Porygon into Porygon2. Once you have them, head to the usual spot in the in-game menus, and evolve from there!

The Season of Light has arrived! With it comes the new special research quest, A Cosmic Companion. Elsewhere, be sure to use Daily Adventure Incense for the chance of encountering Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos and Galarian Moltres. There's also a new special research quest - A Mysterious Incense. The Go Fest 2022 Finale also brought us two new quests - Willow's Return and A Radiant Reunion. Don't forget about the new Prime Gaming rewards every fortnight.

How to get the Up-Grade in Pokémon Go

To get the Up-Grade in Pokémon Go, you'll need to start hitting the streets.

That's because, like with the other new evolutionary items such as the Dragon Scale, Metal Coat, King's Rock and Sun Stone, the Up-Grade can only currently be acquired through random drops from a Pokéstop.

However, there's a twist - fortunately, there is some strategy here after all! A special evolution item will drop on the seventh day of your PokéStop Daily Bonus streak. There's no guaranteeing which evolution item you'll get, but with only five in the game at least you hopefully shouldn't have to wait too long to get a hold of all the items you need.

The Upgrade and the Dubious Disc are still needed to evolve Porygon. However, since Pokemon can't hold items in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, evolutionary items like the Upgrade/Dubious Disc work like evolution stones. To get Porygon2, use the Upgrade on Porygon. Then, to get Porygon-Z, use the Dubious Disc on Porygon2.
