You can still play seasons or GM mode. You can even play career. You just won't earn vc which isn't a big deal in GM/seasons. IDK how they handle MyCareer offline with no currency though it warns you it will be a limited experience. I do not care about mycareer in the slightest. I gave up the fantasy of putting myself in the game back in nba live 96. Let me explain thoroughly what has happened the last two years... nba 2k15 was not playable offline. The only two modes available to play were exhibition and blacktop. That's it. Nothing else was playable unless I connect online. 2k16 was a little better. As long as you didn't update the game you had access to every mode. It would save your progress in mygm and franchise modes and the game was fully playable. Once I updated the game it was right back to 2k15. Exhibition and blacktop only and all my saves were corrupted. This meant I had to delete and reinstall the game to get it to work. I could never update the game. I go waaaay back with 2k. Dreamcast with A.I. on the cover. Back then I could play a season and the game saved and worked properly. That was in the year 2000. 16 years later and this game has become a glorified cash grab. So much so they implement drm. f*** 2k. There is a phenomenal game of basketball buried underneath this disgusting business model. Accordingly, any mode in NBA 2K17 that earns or uses VC will be affected, along with any other online function (such as the MyTEAM mode and online matches against other players).
