Can you use lipikar Baume on your face?

This post will be reviewing the La Roche Posay Lipikar Baume AP+M

When it comes to body skincare, French Pharmacy moisturizers are unmatched! They’re literally the equivalent of Korean Skincare for the face with their generous sizes and reasonable prices. Ever since I discovered how affordable they are, I’ve switched completely. Imagine getting a 400ml bottle of product for less than $20. Take all my money!

So far, I’ve used:

• Bioderma Atoderm Intensive Baume
• Uriage Xemose Lipid-Replenishing Anti-Irritation Cream
• La Roche Posay Lipikar Baume AP+ M

I also have the following in transit that I’ll be using this winter:

• Avene Xeracalm Lipid Replensihing Balm
• SVR Topialyse Anti Dryness Nourishing Care

As you can see, I have a thing for these moisturizers. They’re just the perfect product for my dry dehydrated skin. I tried to use the Cerave Moisturizing Cream but it is honestly not enough or is best used during the Summer.

First Impressions of La Roche Posay Lipikar Baume AP+M

La Roche Posay is one of the most popular French brands owned by the cosmetic giant L’Oreal. They were acquired in 2018 but the company itself was founded in 1975. So, they go way back. Apparently, the company partners with over 25,000 dermatologists worldwide to formulate products specifically for sensitive skin, reactive, allergic, acne-prone, damaged or weakened by cancer treatments, with new therapeutic approaches insisting on the importance of sun protection. I love how super niche they are targeting people with specific skin concerns.

According to La Roche Posay:

Immediate soothing, Anti-scratching, Anti-dry skin flare-ups.A hydrating, soothing Baume for dry skin that feels itchy suitable for the whole family, including babies from 3 months. Also suitable for use on eczema-prone skin.

Specially formulated for restoring triple-action baume to immediately soothe the skin and provide up to 48h hydration, so that itching sensations caused by dry skin are reduced for long-lasting comfort.

Ingredient List & Fragrance

When it comes to body care, I’m not particularly picky with the ingredient list like I would with my face. I don’t mind the essential oils and fragrances as long as the product keeps my body moisturized for at least 12 hours. But for the sake of those that are super-sensitive, let’s dive into the ingredient list:

• Thermal Spring Water
• 20% Shea Butter
• 8% Glycerin
• Niacinamide
• Vitamin E
• Rapeseed Oil

Now, as you can see, there’s nothing really special about the ingredient list. But what makes this product different from every other body moisturizer on the market is;

• AP + M (Aqua Posae + Microresyl) technology that restores the skin barrier function, reducing the frequency of dry skin flare-ups, and helps to rebalance the skin microbiome.
• Microbiome Science which La Roche Posay is a pioneer in. The microbiome is the invisible ecosystem of bacteria on the skin, which helps to ensure good skin health.

Like the rest of their products, this is alcohol, essential oil and fragrance-free. It is safe to use from head to toe for everyone including babies from 3 months.

Texture & Consistency

Anytime I’m buying French Pharmacy body moisturizers, I always look out for products that are described as ‘baumes’. These types of products are usually targeted at those with very dry to atopy-prone skin which I happen to fall under.

Unlike your regular moisturizers, this has a very thick and creamy consistency that completely coats and nourishes any dry skin. But after a few minutes of rubbing, it sinks right into the skin. Despite the fact that it has about 20% Shea Butter, the formula is non-greasy and won’t transfer to your clothes. I love how it leaves a slight sheen after it has been absorbed as opposed to a matte finish. It’s really the perfect moisturizer for dry skin types.

Packaging, Price & Avaliability

I got the 200ml size which comes in a squeeze bottle as opposed to the 400ml pump bottle. Whichever way you look at it, the packaging is very convenient for a body care product. Since La Roche Posay is a popular brand, you can get it from just about any popular retailer. The 200ml retails for $15 while the 400ml goes for $20. You can also get it cheaper when it’s on sale.

The first time I used a sample of this product, I tried it on my face and I actually didn’t mind it at all. But as a result of the heavy presence of Shea Butter, some people particularly those with acne-prone skin will find it too heavy. So, I suggest you just use it on your body alone. Whichever way you decide to use it, it is also fine to use on your face. I’ll also like to mention that this product can be too heavy for the Summer. So, you might want to get a lighter body moisturizer like the Uriage Xemose Lipid-Replenishing Cream.

Performance

I have nothing else to add except that this product works. I mean there’s a reason why it is very popular. All the itchiness and flakiness that comes with dry skin literally disappears for about 24 hours. Your skin just feels hydrated and soothed which is exactly what the brand claims to do.

I use it as the last step after layering any kind of body treatment I’m using at the moment. From serums to exfoliants. It traps and seals in all the moisture. This is why it is advisable to use this product on damp skin or you layer it over a hyaluronic acid moisturizer like the one from Neutrogena. It’s a heavy emollient cream that prevents anything else from being absorbed into your skin.

I absolutely love this product. It is affordable, accessible and comes in a big size suitable for the body. What’s not to love?!
