My employer recently made an agreement with T-Mobile to start giving out work phones that activated on T-Mobile’s network.

They informed me about what the plan, which was called Amplified, would look like, and why making the switch was worth it, but I decided to hold off on making a decision.

I had to find out if it was really worth switching because I had been looking to make the switch from my local carrier to something that had more coverage.

I checked out T-Mobile’s promotion material as well as a few forum posts online where people were talking about their experience being on Amplified, and how it compared with their mainstream plans called Magenta.

It also has Netflix SD bundled if you have more than two lines on your account.

You also can use your phone as a hotspot for up to 5 gigabytes at the highest speeds possible, and 3G speeds afterward.

The Magenta Max plan on the other hand has unlimited 4G or 5G data with no limit on high speed internet.

You’ll also get Netflix SD for single line accounts and Netflix HD if you have more than 2 lines.

The hotspot limit is also bumped up to 40 gigabytes before it goes down to 3G speeds.

The Magenta plan comes to $40 per line, with the third line being free, while Magenta Max is priced higher at $47 per line.

Key Differences

Now that we’ve understood what Amplified and Magenta are, we can move on to the key differences to see what sets both apart, and why T-Mobile has decided to name them differently.

The most obvious difference would be in the pricing, where you can get all the benefits of the Magenta Max plan at the price of the lower Magenta plan if you get Amplified.

But the only issue here is that for you to have the chance to sign up for Amplified, your employer needs to be eligible.

T-Mobile’s aim is to increase their subscriber base, so they’ve collaborated with a lot of employers including institutions and companies and offered to build their work phone network for them.

Apart from that, there are also discounts and added bonuses depending on what your employer has agreed with T-Mobile.

You might even miss some features that are available on Magenta Max because your employer didn’t ask for it in their agreement.

If your employer qualifies, I would suggest you get T-Mobile Amplified as it gives you the best T-Mobile has to offer at a discounted price.

It not only brings down your bill, but removes the soft cap on data and lets you watch Netflix in HD if you have two lines or more.

If your employer doesn’t qualify, but you still want to move to T-Mobile, the Magenta plans are a pretty good choice.

Understand what you want from your phone plan, and choose between Magenta and Magenta MAX.

Choosing the right plan after checking out all the different carriers we have now seems daunting, but if you are able to understand what your requirements are from your phone plan, the choice becomes much easier.

The Amplified plan also allows you to upgrade your device and if your employer has an agreement with T-Mobile that says so, you’ll get free upgrades to the newest phones.
