Destiny 2 legendary lost sector drop rate

TLDR: buff exotic drop rates from lost sectors and/or introduce a way to focus the exotic because currently the combination of exotic armor saturation and rng can make it take forever to get the exotic armor you want. Furthermore, the ever increasing amount of exotic armor pieces in the game is going to make this problem worse until it feels impossible to get the exotic armor you want from a lost sector, rendering the activity completely obsolete.

Destiny is a growing expanding game and there are new exotics added each season. The ability to farm exotics from Lost Sectors is fantastic but this activity needs to be looked at. The drop rates from these activities is quite low, listed as 30% for master activities and 25% for legend. Correct me if that has changed but I spent an hour farming for the new stasis arms for the warlock and saw one exotic. I was farming the master sector and getting 7 minute runs on average. I didn’t see an exotic till about 7 or 8 runs in. And this is pretty common in my experience. The cherry on top was that the exotic I got was one I didn’t want and had a terrible roll as well.

Considering the saturation of exotics in this game, it takes a long time to get the exotic that you want to drop from lost sectors, let alone get any exotic to drop. The difference in drop rates between legend and master seems negligible. In contrast, with a good team you can farm the weekly Nightfall on master which has almost a 50% drop rate for an exotic and if you get 20-30 minute clears, depending on the nightfall. The point is, you will walk away from farming nightfalls for an hour with far more exotics than you would from a master lost sector. The beauty of lost sectors is you can count on which armor type your drop is going to be whereas with Nightfalls it is truly random. However the poor drop rates make the farm from lost sectors seem hardly worthwhile.

As of Season of the Risen, Titans have 8 exotic chest pieces, 11 arms, 8 legs, and 8 helmets. Warlocks have 8 chest pieces, 11 arms, 6 legs and 10 helmets. Hunters have 8 chest pieces, 11 arms, 8 legs and 8 helmets. This could be the wrong way to think about this, I’m no mathematician, please correct me if I’m wrong, but assuming the 30% drop rate from master lost sectors, and averaging the drop pools to 8 exotics per armor type, the chance of getting the exact piece of armor you want to drop are 3/80. This would be assuming there are 8 exotic pieces in each pool, obviously it would be higher for pools with fewer pieces and lower for pools with more pieces.

Lightfall will see even more exotics introduced, and by then there will be at least three more new seasonal exotics introduced from this years content, making this issue even worse if there isn’t some way to focus the armor you want or narrow the drop pool.

I love the exotic lost sectors, I love figuring out builds and experimenting, and feeling like I’m earning my armor, but it’s takes a long time to get the armor you want, and the odds of getting the exact roll you want are even worse. If this doesn’t get some kind of change, nobody is going to want to run these lost sectors. I would hate for the activities to be removed because play time drops, which I believe it will unless something changes. Lost sectors are a great part of the game but the rewards need to be looked at.

The activity needs some bad luck protection added, so that each run without a drop increase your chance of getting another drop. Something else that needs to be considered is some way to narrow the drop pool so it’s easier to get the piece that you want. Or you need to be able to focus the armor. Maybe this means the chest at the end allows you focus an engram and you get a 50/50 chance of getting the exotic. But even that would be better than 1/8 or 1/11.
