Tabitha has a pet fish in her room. His inclusion in the movie was because director Tom McGrath, had lost his own beloved pet fish of 10 years shortly after the first Boss Baby was wrapping up and thought it was a nice way to honor his memory.

When the meeting is called to order in Tina's room, the notes Tina plays on her xylophone are the same tones used for NBC. NBCUniversal is the parent company of DreamWorks Animation.

In the epilogue of the original film, the adult Tim and Ted were only shown from the chest down, due to their younger selves being the main focus. The older versions are now promoted to being the main characters in Family Business, so their faces are fully shown.

As Tim walks towards the Ted during recess viewers of the sleeper hit film Shawshank Redemption will hear the familiar into music as Tim Robbins' character Andy Dufrane is being bussed into Shawshank prison, being played by the baby with a violin.

Alec Baldwin (Ted Jr./Boss Baby), James Marsden (Tim), Jeff Goldblum (Dr. Erwin Armstrong) and Tobey Maguire (the original voice of adult Tim) had previously worked on the first two Cats & Dogs movies. Alec Baldwin, Tobey Maguire and Jeff Goldblum appeared in Cats & Dogs (2001) where Baldwin voiced Agent Butch the Anatolian Shepherd, Maguire voiced Lou the Beagle and Goldblum played Professor Brody. James Marsden voiced Diggs the German Shepherd in the sequel Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore (2010), whereas Baldwin was replaced by Nick Nolte as the voice of Butch and Maguire was replaced by Neil Patrick Harris as the voice of Lou.

The logo design on The Boss Baby: Family Business poster has two dollar signs ($) that appear on the word Business.

Both Alec Baldwin (Ted) and James Marsden (Tim) starred together in the final two seasons of 30 Rock (2006) and both played similar character types. Baldwin played wealthy NBC executive Jack Donaghy while Marsden played Liz Lemon's boyfriend Criss Chros, a playful creative who doesn't make nearly as much money as Jack. Coincidentally in this film, Tim's daughter is named Tina, while Tina Fey played Liz Lemon.

Much like the first Boss Baby, this film also released the same year as an MCU Spider-Man film. The Boss Baby (2017) released the same year as Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and The Boss Baby: Family Business (2021) released the same year as Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).

Tim ask Tina if Baby Corp is going to fight kittens. In the Netflix series Boss Baby: Back in Business, several episodes feature kittens as the competition for the babies.

When Tim and Boss Baby are racing through town atop a giant snowball, the snowball collects, a now adult, Jimbo. Jimbo was one of Boss Baby's closest Baby Corp colleagues in the first film and the following TV show.
