Disco Elysium Determine where the shot came from

Find out in this guide where the shot of Disco Elysium comes from, if you are still interested in this question, keep reading.

In Disco Elysium – The Final Cut you play as a detective, you have a unique skill system and an entire city block to navigate. Interrogate unforgettable characters, solve murders or take bribes. It's up to you to be the hero or the ultimate loser. Here's how to determine where the shot is coming from.

Where did the shot take place on the Disco Elysium?

Your task is to find bullet marks in three places. The first is on the edge of the lot, reached by walking north along the narrow path between the church and the abandoned Feld R&D building. At the northernmost end you will see a ruined tower. South of the tower, a blue orb will appear above your head, allowing you to inspect the shot.

Note that this is not an interacting object; only if you stand in the right place will the orb appear. Look at the screenshot below; although slightly enlarged, note the location of the three fallen beams just above the character and the rock near where he is standing.

The second shot (a shot from the boardwalk) is in the basement of the Feld Research Center building. You can't go in here unless you're prepared to go after the suspect; see this page to find out how to enter the building.

Once you're in the basement, turn on your flashlight and look to the far right of the basement before turning into the tunnels. A yellow sphere should appear above your head, if you have a good Perception skill. Click on it to reveal a new small area to the right of the wall. Enter it and inspect everything there. By examining the window next to the roof, this will eliminate the second part of the side task.

The last filming location is the island, which is past the point of no return in the story. Once on the island, the path is mostly linear. Exit the first structure through its southeast door. Next, explore the eastern part of the island to find a semi-destroyed structure. Inside this dilapidated structure is a mattress, which you'll be able to complete the quest by examining.

During the task Get the Whole Story from Titus, you'll learn from Klaasje (#1) that the hanged man was shot by somebody outside her bedroom, and that the shot passed through her bedroom window. When you examine the window, you'll be given a "medium" Visual Calculus check. Passing it will trigger this task.

Note: If you don't arrest Klaasje, then near the end of the game, after the Mercenary Tribunal, she'll put up a red thread in her bedroom showing the trajectory of the bullet. This will give you a +6 bonus for the Visual Calculus check. So if Visual Calculus isn't your strong suit, you can just wait a while before attempting this task.

Walkthrough

Visual Calculus will tell you that there's a 72% chance that the shooter was on the roof of the Whirling-in-Rags (#1) and a 28% chance that one of three other, more distant locations was used. You'll then need to check the three distant locations to narrow down where the shooter could have been:

Kim will suggest looking for gunshot residue and sniper nests down the coast in order to rule other spots out, even if they are less likely than the roof itself.

Disco Elysium Determine where the shot came from

  • The Land's End nest is found to the east of the boardwalk and church, near the water. Ask Kim about cigarette butts to earn 5 XP and 2 real. He'll rule this out as a theory.

Disco Elysium Determine where the shot came from

  • The boardwalk nest is found when you uncover the secret entrances to the Feld building (Look for Ruby on the coast). Once inside, head downstairs to the bunker. In the south corner, with sufficient Perception you'll spot a crevice leading to a small room. In there is a high window; investigate it to conclude a sniper could not have done the job from there.
  • The island portion of this task is completed during Go to the island.

Once you're done, you'll earn 70 XP and be able to confront The Deserter with proof.

Unfortunately, the footnote ends there, so there's not much in the way of detail about what these restrictions are or how long they'd remain in effect in a potential post-acquisition world. Given COD's continued non-appearance on Game Pass, you've got to imagine the restrictions are fairly significant if they're not an outright block on COD coming to the service. Either way, the simple fact that Microsoft is apparently willing to maintain any restrictions on its own ability to put first-party games on Game Pass is rather remarkable, given that making Game Pass more appealing is one of the reasons for its acquisition spree.

The irony of Sony making deals like this one while fretting about COD's future on PlayStation probably isn't lost on Microsoft's lawyers, which is no doubt part of why they brought it up to the CMA. While it's absolutely reasonable to worry about a world in which more and more properties are concentrated in the hands of singular, giant megacorps, it does look a bit odd if you're complaining about losing access to games while stopping them from joining competing services.

How do you find where the shot came from Disco Elysium?

Near the northernmost tip, you'll come to a dilapidated tower. Just south of the tower, you'll get a blue orb over your head that lets you examine the shot. Note that this is not an interactable object; only by standing in the right spot will the orb appear.

How do you check the island for bullet traces in Disco Elysium?

Check island for bullet traces. This is only available in the endgame, when you arrive at the Sea Fortress and can access the east side of the island. In the ruined bunker is a mattress. Interact with it and determine this is where the shot came from.

How do you check boardwalk for bullet traces?

The boardwalk traces aren't actually on the boardwalk, and you'll find them while following a different lead in the story. You won't be able to reach the island for a while, it's only accessible towards the end of the game.

Is there a time limit in Disco Elysium?

In total, Disco Elysium has ten playable days, with each day offering new things to do, new areas to explore, more characters to interact with, and much more. You don't need all ten days though, since the main quest can be completed by Day 5 in some cases.
