You see it everywhere, people writing on their car windows. They can be celebrating a birthday, newly married, out for a girl’s night out, or even looking for a kidney for a sick relative. What is everyone using to write on their vehicle windows?

They are probably using chalk markers.

Chalk markers are the safest thing for you to write on your car windows with, however I would use the water-based markers just to ensure that there would be no damage to your car. However, these markers are made for car windows, they are not made to go on your vehicle’s paint job.

Chalk markers come in two different types; water-based and oil-based. Both water based and oil based chalk markers are fine for normal uses but you will only want to use water based on your car windows. Chalk markers should not be used on your car’s paint as it could stain it or leave residue behind.

What Markers Are Safe To Write On Your Car’s Paint?

These water-based paint and hazardous free markers will not do any damage to your car’s paint or windows. They dry instantly and will not cause any damage to your car. These markers will last for up to six months.

The rain and snow will also not wash your designs away. So you can keep your message up for quite a while.

Do not use these on wet surfaces.

How Do You Get Markers Off Of Windows?

So, you decided to use a marker on your windows to write a message for someone. It’s been there for a while and you just want to remove it. You first need to know what kind of marker was used to write on your window.

People have used water-based markers and oil-based markers, which can also be referred to as grease pens. Some people use chalk markers. Some people have even used permanent markers, which are a little harder to remove.

The first thing to do when you want to remove marker from your window is to clean the window. Making sure that the window is clean will remove any dirt or dust that could potentially scratch the glass.

All you need to clean your vehicle’s window is a bucket, some water, dish detergent, and a sponge. If you had used a water-based marker to write on your window then this step will remove it completely.

To remove permanent marker from your car’s windows you will have to use something a little stronger after you have washed the windows, so head to your medicine cabinet and grab the rubbing alcohol or acetone fingernail polish remover.

Pour some rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover on to a paper towel and rub it on the marker. This will take a little elbow grease.

Make sure to change out your paper towels for fresh ones and add more of your cleaner of choice to it often throughout the cleaning process. Once you have removed all of the marker, clean your window with a window cleaner.

If you had used a grease pen (oil-based marker) or a chalk marker you will need rubbing alcohol or acetone fingernail polish remover, a clean razor blade, paper towels, and window cleaner to remove it all.

The first thing you will do is to carefully take the razor blade and scrape the chalk marker off of your window. You will need to wipe the razor on the paper towel frequently to clean the blade.

When the majority of the marker has been removed from the window you will now need to take your rubbing alcohol or acetone fingernail polish remover and a paper towel. Use your solvent of choice to remove any leftover marker.

Once you have removed all of the marker off of your vehicle’s windows you will now need to use a window cleaner to remove any leftover residue.
