We have some good news, some bad news, and then another scoop of good news for fans of Netflix’s On My Block. The popular series has finally returned for a fourth season (good news!), but the newest installment of the beloved sitcom will be the show’s final season (bad
news). While we prepare to say goodbye to the original Core Four, Netflix recently announced a new spinoff series, Freeridge, from the co-creators of On My Block. Per Netflix, the upcoming series will be a “more female driven show” that features a new Core Four and showcases another side of the beloved town of Freeridge. ***On My Block Season 4 spoilers ahead *** Many fans have already devoured the final season of On My Block,
and, honestly, we don’t blame them. While Season 4 offers no shortage of laughs, it also includes a number of heart-wrenching moments as two major characters die during the final ten episodes. Who died during the fourth season of On My Block? Here’s everything you need to know. Yes. Sadly, Oscar dies at the end of the fifth episode of Season 4. After reconciling with his brother Cesar, Oscar steps outside
the house to call Isabel and tell her the good news: Cesar has agreed to move to Portland with them. Their reverie is short-lived as Oscar’s face goes from elation to apprehension. He hears a car approaching, and, well, his expression says everything. He tells Isabel he loves her as we cut back into the house. Cesar hears gunshots and a car speeding away. He rushes outside to find Oscar gasping for air. Cesar frantically asks Oscar who shot him, but it’s too late. Oscar dies in his arms. Nope. Oscar dies before he can reveal the culprit. While never officially confirmed, Oscar’s death was most likely a gang-related attack.
Yep. Unfortunately, Abuelita dies during the series finale of On My Block. After Ruby leaves to attend prom, we learn that Abuelita peacefully passes away from cancer. One of the show’s most beloved characters, it’s hard to imagine where the Core Four would be without the wisdom, humor, and guidance of Abuelita. Ruby’s farewell is touching, but this small scene between Geny and Jamal is a fun, touching tribute to the

On My Block is a show that marries together action and gang culture while also exploring the nuance of teenage relationships – something that is often dismissed as teenage angst. Season three's ending, as with previous seasons, left fans with some pretty big questions. While we can't forget that season one left us wondering whether Ruby was going to survive, and season two saw all four of our protagonists kidnapped after they found and laundered the Rollerworld money, this one felt like a departure. "This has a different kind of cliffhanger than we've had in the previous two seasons," On My Block co-creator Lauren Iungerich said (via Refinery29). "This one's really going to mess y'all up." Yep – if you are after happy endings, then the most recent season finale may not have been your cup of tea. Let's take a moment to unpack this. Netflix After Monse, Cesar, Ruby and Jamal were successful in taking down the Prophets, and it was thought that Cesar now had a brighter future ahead of him, the core group were tasked with yet another seemingly impossible job – tracking down Lil Ricky. The quest of finding Lil Ricky ran paramount through the whole of the season, but we also saw our heroes struggling with other relationship problems, both familial and romantic, as well as the introduction of new characters. One new face in On My Block season three was, of course, the elusive Kendra (played by Troy Leigh-Anne Johnson). Kendra first appeared to Jamal at school where she frightened him. He thought she might have been sent to stalk him by the Prophets, however it quickly transpired that Kendra just had a crush on Jamal and the two quickly formed a relationship. Netflix Jamal ended things with Kendra when he thought that she was just using him for sex, but as the season progressed he realised that he was in love with her. In the final episode, Jamal sent Kendra a text and it was implied that they might rekindle things. Season three also saw the group dealing with a multitude of emotional setbacks. Monse lost her estranged mother and Ruby developed confusing feelings for Jasmine. As for Monse and Cesar? Their tumultuous relationship remained fraught as ever, as the two could neither commit to a relationship or to staying away from one another. For a jaw-dropping moment we thought that Oscar had died, and the crew were forced to look for Spooky's body but actually stumbled across Cuchillos' corpse. It is unclear who is responsible for her death. Netflix At the end of the season finale, we see Monse leave Freeridge to attend her private boarding school. All four of the gang embraced and promised each other that the distance would not change
anything. But in the flash-forward that jumped ahead two years, the core group appeared to have drifted. Monse looked almost unrecognisable as she socialised with her new friends and, in a turn of events, Jamal joined a football team. Ruby has also had a fashion makeover and it looked like Cesar has become leader of the Santos. His brother Oscar has gotten his own happy ending with a love interest and a baby on the way. Mysteriously there was no sight of Kendra in this flash-forward, and viewers have been left wondering about the significance of her character. Will she be back for season four (if confirmed)? Will there be a Kendra/Jamal reunion? We guess we have no choice but to wait and see. While this is may not be the preferred ending for fans, it could be argued that it was a realistic one. It showed that some characters (like Cesar) might have a pre-destined route that they couldn't break away from, while others – such as Monse – were able to forge their own paths.
