Does the 2022 MDX have massage seats?

Does the 2022 MDX have massage seats?

The 3-row Acura MDX SUV has been around since 2001 and is a top seller for Honda’s luxury brand. After taking the 2021 model year off, it has returned all-new for 2022, longer, lower, wider, and filled with the latest tech and amenities. This mark’s the model’s fourth generation. Even though there’s more legroom in the third row, it remains best for kids. Overall, the 2022 Acura MDX still has all the things we like about it.

Power still comes from a 3.5-liter V6, refreshing in a world where many manufacturers have turned to turbocharged 4-cylinder engines. Coupled with a smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission, the V6 feels relaxed but strong, plenty to motivate this midsize luxury SUV even with a full load of passengers.

The lower two trims have front-wheel drive with optional all-wheel drive, but the higher trims get Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) standard. This innovative all-wheel-drive system sends torque to the left or right side, depending on where extra power is needed. Coming later this year is the Type S performance model that makes 355 horsepower from a turbo 3.0-liter V6.

Given that the MDX competes in the luxury segment, it’s well equipped and comfortable, with an optional removable center seat in the middle row for easier movement or optional second-row captain’s chairs, which reduce passenger count to six.

Standard features are generous and include synthetic leather upholstery, power front seats, tri-zone automatic control, and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa. The AcuraWatch suite of safety systems is standard equipment and includes features like lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and a driver attention monitor.

Four trims

As the Type S is unavailable until later this year, we don’t have pricing information on it. We do have info on the four available trims powered by the 3.5-liter V6.

The base model (simply called MDX) starts at $47,200, plus $1,025 destination fee. Super Handling All-Wheel Drive is $2,000 extra on the base model and those with the Technology Package, and is included on the two higher trims.

Standard features are still quite good in the base version and include power front seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen.

Also included are a wireless charging pad, a 9-speaker audio system, and USB charging ports for the first two rows of seats. Borrowed from the Odyssey minivan is CabinTalk, which allows the front-seat passengers to speak to those in the back via the audio system. Also standard is AcuraWatch, a full suite of safety systems with forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, road departure mitigation, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic monitor, and a driver attention monitor.

Next is the Technology trim, which adds Milano leather, a navigation system with real-time traffic, front and rear parking sensors, a 12-speaker ELS premium audio system, and 20-inch wheels for $51,900.

A-Spec is Acura’s term for a sporty appearance package. In the case of the MDX, the A-Spec ($57,400) comes standard with all-wheel drive and includes ventilated front seats, Milano leather with perforated Ultrasuede inserts, LED foglights, a stitched dash, and a 16-speaker ELS 3D audio system. Also included are a black grille and other black trim, as well as A-Spec badges, 20-inch Shark Gray wheels, and special colors such as Apex Pearl Blue.

At the top rung is the Advance ($60,950), which contains all the goodies. Also with standard SH-AWD, the Advance includes Milano leather with contrast stitching, heated front and rear seats, massaging 16-way front sport seats, a 10.5-inch head-up display, open-pore wood trim, a surround-view camera, third-row USB ports, and a hands-free power tailgate. Also included is a spectacular 16-speaker ELS audio system.

Super Handling All-Wheel Drive

Does the 2022 MDX have massage seats?

Acura’s all-wheel-drive system is very sophisticated, with the ability to send power front and rear as needed. Torque vectoring can send as much as 70% of torque to the wheel that needs it most. A $2,000 option on the lower trims, it’s included on the A-Spec and Advance. All MDX models include a button gear-selector setup and a drive mode rotary controller.

Body Side Molding

Considering that the MDX is often sold to families, it’s not surprising that there will be nicks and scratches when the doors are opened and closed. A small price to pay to protect your MDX’s paint job.

16-speaker ELS 3D premium audio system

The well-integrated infotainment system, which includes real-time navigation and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, comes with a premium sound system in the A-Spec and Advance models. The ELS system probably sounds better than what you have in your home. Nothing like good tunes on a long family road trip.

Crossbars and Roof Box

With the second and third rows folded, the 2022 MDX has a good 71.4 cubic feet of space. But with a full complement of passengers, that shrinks to 16.3 cubic feet behind the third-row seats. Fortunately, the roof box helps alleviate that problem so you can carry what you need on a family vacation.

Protection Package

Trailer Hitch and Harness

With a strong V6 and all-wheel drive, the 2022 MDX is rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds. This is a good thing to have when you decide to take toys up to the lake for that family weekend.
