Does the Polaris Sportsman have power steering?

Looking into buying a Polaris Sportsman. (First time ATV buyer). Been looking at the 500 HO. It does not have power steering. Is power steering really worth the extra money or can you get by without it? It sounds like from what I have been reading it is the way to go. Any help in this area would be very helpful to me. Thanks.

If you can afford it, it is the way to go. I won't buy another without it.

Depends how you want to feel the next day after a ride. You want to feel like you were beat up or like you never rode at all? Your choice.

If you never had it you will never miss it, and be just fine. But if you ride one with power steering you will be wishing that you bought one with it.

I think it depends how you ride. In the mud I dont really notice not having it but if doing a lot of technical trail riding it would be nice to have . plowing snow is also a lot nicer with it.

What kind of $$$ to add PS when ordering new?

At 62 and advanced arthritis I could see it being a plus. Should set cruise at 10 MPH but I can not find it on our old Magnums.

500ho doesn't come with it.

Get a new 570 with eps.

they don't make the 500 anymore. the 570 can have it. but they have after market for the 500 so if you can get the 500 than you can add it for like $700

I bought my 550 without PS. Added it through an aftermarket kit for, like $650. Been very pleased and will never buy another ATV without it. Plain and Simple! It does not matter what kind of riding you are doing, PS is a plus!

so true.i don't have it and refuse to use a machine that has it till im ready to buy it for mine ,lol ,because I know whats going to happen.till then, ignorance is bliss!

My opinion, get it, you will love it and your machine will have better resale... I have had both and now that I have it I would never go back.

I suffer from chronic pain and stiffness. I can't ride without it, it's just too difficult. I have other mobility issues that would prevent enjoying my ATV if it did not have power steering.

Our small Magnum pushes my limits so on the large machines I can see how it might be required. In our case if we need a big machine we would just use the tractor however.

regardless of "proven" or not, the added option = better resale. It's definitely not going to reduce the resale on the machine.

I plan on getting one with it. A) because I have no intentions of ever selling the bike, and B) because it will allow my wife, all 4'10" and 105 lbs. of her, to ride the full sized bike if she ever decides she wants too.

??? Not sure how/why you would say that. It has been in use for many years in many different types of vehicles, in fact my car has EPS and is flawless, as it has been on my ATV. How old does something need to be before you consider it "proven"? I think people are starting to learn that EPS is a good thing, as well as reliable. It's not new technology anymore. Be not afraid....

Depends on YOU the rider. Your riding terrain, the style riding you enjoy. The tires you are wanting to run. If you enjoy trails and will be sticking with a 26 or 27 inch tire it's a toss up. Tight rock trails and wash outs on 28's or so, then definitely go with power steering. The non EPS bikes turn very well (to me, not everyone may think so) compared to other larger bikes. The EPS is a great feature to have and has become very reliable. I hated the idea of it when buying mine(also wanted red..) I thought of it more as a problem than an assistance. Now having driven it for a solid day waking up the next day you can barely tell you rode the day before. Feedback is a minimum on the EPS models so that is also a selling point possibly, driving over rocks and fallen trees doesn't jerk the bars from your hands as it once did on non power steering bikes.
But again, it's all up to the rider, YOU.

For it to be as reliable as some people say I sure have read on alot of forums of peoples quitting or having major slop in it and a few other gremlins. Some people have even come up with a way to fix the slop in them with a set screw. A guy I use to ride with could turn his handlebars 3-4 inches before the tires would even turn it had so much slop in it. Is that what we are calling reliable these days. I am sure some have had no problems and some have had major problems.
I don't have it either and really havn't thought about needing it. Looks like it will come down to it one of these days because I am sure if I want an LE model or something it will be on it. I am 51 years old and my arms just don't feel it like some peoples I don't guess. All my days are over 100 miles and it doesn't seem to bother me not to have it.
It is up to you if you want it or not. You will get 10 different answers if you need it or not but you need to make the decision. See if you can ride one of each for a day then ask the qustion again.

I'm with u! I've read more problems then a few people on this site will admit. And I don't understand this oh I'm sore if I ride without it. I think it's a problem with Americas lifestyle.(to much couch and tech time)
