From the episode: "The Courtship of Stewie's Father"
Singers: Herbert
Voices: Mike Henry

"Somewhere That's Green" is a song that was part of the musical score for the off-Broadway & Broadway stage musical and later, film adaptation of Little Shop of Horrors. The song is performed by the musical's main female protagonist, Audrey Fulquard, after she realizes she has strong feelings for her co-worker, Seymour Krelborn. Audrey sings about marrying Seymour and finally settling down in the family life she had long desired.

The song was featured in "The Courtship of Stewie's Father", here performed by Herbert. Herbert fills the role of Audrey, and the song is his attempt to paint himself as a sympathetic character: a lonely man who is nearing the end of his life without ever having a meaningful relationship, and believing he's on the cusp of Chris filling that long-standing void. Herbert sings glowingly about Chris, in the same manner as Audrey did about Seymour in the original.

A series of clips, with Herbert cast as Audrey and Chris as Seymour, and played out in similar fashion as in Little Shop of Horrors accompany the song. The clips also feature two children who look just like Herbert and Chris.

Lyrics

He rakes and trims the grass,He loves to mow and weed,I cook like Betty Crocker,And I look like Donna Reed. There's plastic on the furnitureTo keep it neat and clean,In the Pine-Sol scented air,Somewhere that's green.Between our frozen dinnersAnd our bedtime, 9:15,We snuggle watching LucyOn our big, enormous 12-inch screen.I'm his December bride,Chris Griffin, he knows best. The kids play Howdy-Doody,As the sun sets in the west. The picture out of "Better HomesAnd Gardens Magazine,"Someday I know,We too will go,Somewhere that's green.

Little Shop of Horrors is the 1986 musical film adaptation of the off-Broadway musical comedy of the same name by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman, about a nerdy florist shop worker who raises a vicious plant that feeds on human blood. Menken and Ashman's off-Broadway musical was based on the low-budget 1960 film also of the same name.

Doug the Pimple from "Brian the Bachelor" is reminiscent of Audrey II, the plant.

In "Peter's Two Dads", when Stewie imagines being tortured by Lois, Stewie repeatedly screams gratitude. In the film, Bill Murray’s character loves pain and goes to get a root canal for pleasure.

The song "Somewhere That's Green" in "The Courtship of Stewie's Father" is from the film. Herbert even dresses up as Audrey, the girl of Seymour's dreams.

When Brian and Stewie are wondering if Mort Goldman accidentally used the time machine in "Road to Germany", they ask Rick Moranis and the backup singers from the film. "Mort the Jew" is sung to the same tune as "Da-Doo".

Peter recalls having a bad experience performing as Audrey II in "Brian's Play".

With Brian's operation of Stewie's gene altering device in "Baby Stewie", the latter shape shifts though various creatures including Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors.

In "Hard Boiled Meg", Seymour starts singing "Suddenly Seymour" before getting shot.

When he's singing Herbert the Pervert is spoofing Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors.

Although the episode's third act is set in Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, the park's scenery and ride locations are actually more similar to that of Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Examples include the Matterhorn Bobsleds and original Haunted Mansion in the background, and the scene on the Indiana Jones ride, which is exclusive to Disneyland.

The title of this episode can be taken from the TV show "The Courtship of Eddie's Father".

Yet another Star Wars reference is utilized in this episode when Peter is conducting the Sand People choir. Peter's boss Angela is voiced by Carrie Fisher, Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise.

First episode to reference the Back to the Future trilogy.

Stewie is shown to complete 94 rotations when trapped in his rock piercing hovercraft.

When Brian tries to cheer Peter up after sending Stewie to his room he sings "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" by The Buckwheat Boyz.

Originally Season 4 Episode 19 (4ACX19); released as Season 4 Episode 16.
