First 10 days of dhul hijjah 2022

The day of Arafah falls on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah and is considered the most important day of the Islamic Year.

The first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah are the best 10 days of the Islamic year. For those of us who can’t perform Hajj this year, please remember that these 10 days unlock divine opportunities to gain immense rewards and blessings.

The Prophet Muhammad, may peace and blessings be upon him, said:

“There are no days on which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah (SWT) than these [first] 10 days [of Dhul Hijjah].”

{Bukhari}

These 10 days are incredibly profound. It is recommended in these sacred days to be more mindful of your prayers, to give charity, and to give your Qurbani in time for Eid ul-Adha.

The beauty of Allah’s mercy is in the many chances he gives us to do more good. Here are a few ways you can ensure to make the most of the blessings of these 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah.

Fasting

Fasting on these 10 days is beloved to Allah (SWT) — especially on the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah, which is the day of Arafat.

Abu Qatadah reported that: The Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the observance of fasting on the day of Arafah. He said

“it expiates the sins of the preceding year and the coming year.”

(Muslim)

You can increase your rewards by combining your intentions of good deeds too. Make the intention to fast for the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah and also to follow the sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (may peace and blessings be upon him) when fasting on the first Monday of Dhul-Hijjah and on two Thursdays of Dhul-Hijjah as well.

It is reported that

“The Prophet (may peace and blessings upon him) used to fast on the first nine days of Dhul Hijjah, the day of Ashura, three days each month, the first Monday of the month and two Thursdays.”

The Prophet Muhammad, may peace and blessings be upon him, said:

“There are no days that are greater before Allah (SWT) or in which good deeds are more beloved to Him than these 10 days, so recite a great deal of Tahleel, Takbeer, and Tahmeed.”

[Ahmad]

  • Tahleel: Laa ilaha ill-Allah – There is no God but Allah (SWT)
  • Takbeer: Allahu Akbar – Allah (SWT) is the Greatest
  • Tahmeed: Alhamdulillah – All Praises be to Allah (SWT)

During these 10 days, recite your remembrance as frequently as you can and keep Allah (SWT) in your heart with everything that you do.

Read the Qur’an

Muslims will earn great reward for reciting the Qur’an. Reading just a single letter from the book of Allah (SWT) will receive a Hasanah (good deed). The Prophet, may peace and blessings be upon him, said:

Read the Qur’an, for verily it will come on the Day of Standing as an intercessor for its companions.

[Muslim]

Create a beautiful relationship with the book of Allah (SWT) in these 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah. If you can, read its translated version and take the time to understand and appreciate the words of Allah (SWT). Reading the Qur’an will lead to success in this life and the hereafter, and these 10 days are an amazing time for us to read and adore the verses of the Qur’an that were revealed to our Prophet Muhammed (SAW).

We know that no deeds are more beloved to Allah (SWT) than they are on these 10 days. Even on other days, we are told that reading from the book of Allah (SWT) will have a reward that is multiplied by 10 — so we can imagine the reward that comes with reading the Qur’an on these 10 days.

The Prophet (SAW) said:

“Whoever reads a letter from the book of Allah (SWT), he will have a reward. And that reward will be multiplied by 10. I am not saying that Alif, Laam, Meem is a letter, rather I am saying that “Alif” is a letter, “laam” is a letter, and “meem” is a letter.”

Give Qurbani

There are no days more beloved to Allah (SWT) than these first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah, when Ibrahim (AS) was asked to sacrifice his own son to prove his devotion to Allah (SWT). Qurbani represents the beauty of letting go of your worldly attachments in the same way that Ibrahim (AS) did, and your sacrifice means that Allah (SWT) will always return His love to you by granting you mercy.

The Prophet (SAW) said:

“For every hair of the Qurbani, you will receive a reward from Allah (SWT).”

(Tirmidhi)

Your Qurbani is more than just a sacrifice for food. It is also a gift for many orphans and widows, for whom meat is a rare luxury. Bring joy to orphans and widowed families this Eid and reap the rewards of these 10 days of Dhul Hijjah. Give your Qurbani.

Give to the poor

These 10 blessed days are most beloved to Allah (SWT) and are an amazing time to give charity because the rewards of your Sadaqah or Zakat will be maximized and amplified. Your charity will also aid you on the day of judgment in the hereafter.

The Prophet (SAW) said:

“The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be their charity.”

Give to those in need today and give hope, joy, and comfort to orphans and widows all around the world. Give for the sake of Allah (SWT) and remember that your good will aid you on the day of resurrection.

The Prophet (SAW) said:

“Charity does not decrease wealth.”

Give a widowed family the gift of a food parcel that will feed them for a whole month, saving them from starvation and malnutrition. Bring joy by giving widows and orphans in impoverished communities a nutritious and warm Eid meal.

Orphans in Need hope and pray that Allah (SWT) accepts your devotion to Him on this sacred month of Hajj. Ameen.
