Oil Filter: Mobile 1 vs Fram Tough Guard

I have always run the Fram Tough Guard oil filter and really no lifter noise at start up. Autozone was running a deal for $25 or $27 or so for 5 quarts of Mobile 1 Synthetic and a Mobile 1 oil filter. Had lifter noise the whole time. Just changed my oil again this weekend and went back to the Fram Tough Guard oil filter, whadyaknow, not lifter noise at start up. The Fram is cheaper as well.

Just thought I would throw that out.

A long story short without getting involved with brand wars,,lol. From what I read , Fram has the decent results regarding performance and its anti-drainback-valve preventing oil from leaving the filter while the vehicle sits unused.

The bad part about Fram is that it is made of cardboard or similar material, if the filter ever fails internaly, you are screwed big time. Go to the search engine on here, and type in oil filters,, loads of data on here, type in fram as well. but some how , the overall performance of the Fram brings good results. I would never put a Fram in my Jk if given to me for free, just my 2 cents. I use a Napa Gold #1348 due to having dry start issues with the Mopar OEM Oil Filter. Napa Gold Filters are made by WIX a well known company, good results so far.

Mobil 1 filters are not bad, but most folks would think it would be better, considering Mobil Oil is one of the top notch Companies making quality oil.

Post back on here if you start to discover dry starts on your JK if not started for more than 3 or 4 days, nothing bad about the Mobil ! Filter , just wanted to see what your result was, some members insalled a extended size Mobil 1 Oil Filter and good decent results.

This is my 6th oil change, so 7th filter (first one being from the factory), first oil change was done by oil place (at 2,500 miles), so the other 4, now 5 were done by me. 3 of the 4 I used the Tough Guard, no problems, no lifter noise, the last oil change a few months ago with the Mobile 1, lifter noise at start up, even if only sitting for a few hours. So far, back to the Fram and no noise at start up, even after sitting all night.

Interesting about the Fram failing, I'll have to check more into that, don't recall seeing anything on them failing.

Not trying to say fram is not any good, they are great filters and their performance is well known, just not going to install a oil filter made out of corrugated carboard material in my JK's Engine. The major thing that would go wrong is this material going through your engine if it ever failed, is this a common problem , ____ no ____ , but who the hell wants to be a test subject,,,,ha,ha...lol

Just kidding. The Fram seems to perform very well, but you do make a good point on the cardboard.

Startup knock - oil filters with bad ADB valves...

To anyone that may still read this: First off: Fram NEVER used Corrugated Cardboard .. EVER .. in ANY of its filters. The material was a synthetic composite material. Second: Fram's Tough Guard and Ultra BOTH use METAL Endcaps. Thank you, that is all.
