Design Story and Inspiration for the Easy Crochet Water Bottle HolderI really love making things that are new to me. I love the challenge of designing something I’ve never made before, so when I thought about the items I hadn’t designed yet I knew it was the perfect time to design a water bottle holder! I wanted one with a shorter strap that was easy to carry, fit a regular size water bottle and was cute enough that I’d actually want to use it! Yarn Options for this Easy Crochet PatternThis project is great for using up scrap yarn. I used a partial cake that I had left over from making the Easy Crochet Shawl. I even made a crochet dishcloth and soap saver with the same partial cake! I wanted a cotton yarn that would be very strong and easy to care for. I separated my cake into its different colors and went to work. This could easily be done in any colors you like, with any worsted weight yarn you like (doesn’t have to be cotton), and you can even make it in a single color if you prefer. The options are endless! Of course this doesn’t have to be used to carry just water. It’s great as a crochet bottle holder for many different beverages. One of the best things is that it is so stretchy that it will fit many different containers. I would love for you to come follow me on Crochet Water Bottle Carrier Pattern DetailsThis is an easy crochet pattern that uses double crochet for the body of the holder and single crochet in the thermal stitch for the strap. The thermal stitch is a unique way of working single crochet through the back loop that makes for a very thick fabric. No stretching out of shape here!! Each round of double crochet is joined with a slip stitch (sl st) and the handle is worked in rows. It’s a super easy pattern that is great for those just starting out! How to Customize Your Water Bottle CozyThere are many ways to customize your project. Want a water bottle sling instead of a water bottle carrier? No problem! Just crochet a long strap instead of the short version. You can make the strap any length you like. This pattern uses a medium weight yarn (worsted #4) to fit a normal 16.9 fluid ounce bottle. It also fits great on a stainless steel water bottle that I have that holds 20 oz. If you have a larger container, it’s easy to go with a bulky or chunky weight yarn to create a larger size carrier. Done this way, it could easily be a wine bottle holder if worked taller. We’ve already mentioned the color options but I think it bears repeating. Make it in one color, three or four colors or as many as you like! Use up that scrap yarn!!! Most crochet bottle holders begin at the bottom, many with a magic ring, and then increase to form the base of the bag. Then you work even on the base to create the body of the bag (the stitches that go up the sides). Finally, you create the top of the water bottle bag and the strap. How do you crochet a water bottle sling? A water bottle sling is really the same thing as a water bottle carrier or holder, only it has a shoulder strap, usually a thin one like you would see on a drawstring backpack. These can be made in many styles. What type of yarn is best for a crochet bottle holder? I like to use cotton yarn because they are absorbent, easy to care for and hold up well to the weight of the bottle. You can really use any yarn you have for these, however, as they are great ways to use up scrap yarn and bust your stash! Today we’ve learned how to make an easy crochet water bottle holder – something definitely cute AND functional! I hope you’ll give this easy pattern a try! Happy Crocheting!
