Joined Oct 9, 2017Messages164Location Basalt, CO How big of a difference is the gen 3 vs gen 4. This will be my first hand gun purchase and will be used (hopefully not) on an
AK drop camp hunt. I’m primarily an archery hunter and this will be for bear defense-in other words not a hobby of mine where I will be shooting for recreation other than to practice with it.
Here's a pretty cool article.

frame, modular back strap system, comes with 3 mags instead of 2, bigger mag release, and a different recoil spring. All my Glocks are Gen 4. I like the grip texture, mag release and the extra mag which makes the price difference kind of negligible to me.
JoinedJul 2, 2016Messages7,375Location Alaska I prefer the grip texture of the gen4. I have 2 gen4 and 1 gen3 g20. All the other features are a wash for me but I like the texture of the gen4. Similar threads
My G20 is a original G20, I bought it in the Tupperware box. So cant tell ya much. I have a G29 Gen3 and a G40 Gen4. Frankly I dont feel or see much difference. CW
The real question is: what's the purpose of your proposed set-up? If it's just a range toy, or for hunting, or a woods/hiking/camping gun, why not get the Gen4 G40 MOS-ready longslide?
Then you can mount & hang whatever cool operator do-dads you want on it. Get a center chest rig to carry it while you're at it. OTOH, if it's for concealed EDC, I'd go Gen4 G20. Glock's Gen4 10mm models have the best recoil system since the original design. Last edited: Jul 21, 2021 Joined

I think the place the for the updated recoil spring is with full power loads. Three gen3 20s here and the only way I can get them to reliably function with 200gr bullets near or past 1200fps is to use an aftermarket dual spring. And with the dual spring it’s still not 100%; however, much closer than with the stock spring. Why why why do 10mm
testers continue to use 40sw+ equivalent when testing 10mm? And they never run the test ammo through a chrono. It’s always, “yeah this one feels hot” or “the box says it’s 1250fps.” That’s not testing, that’s opinionating. I will say this one runs flawless with off-the-shelf ammo and does not need hearing protection when suppressed.

I do much prefer the grip and the mag button on the gen 4. Talons help the texture on the gen 3 but I like the gen 4 grip size without a backstrap.
