Dripping Spring’s modern history dates back to the 1850s, at which time three families moved from Mississippi to Texas. The group came upon the area that is now known as Wallace Mountain and claimed the spot as their home. Despite being located only 30 miles from the capital of Texas, the area was still considered to be a part of the frontier. The first postmaster, John Moss, was appointed on June 5, 1857. It was at this time that the community was officially named Dripping Springs in honor of the dripping springs at a branch of the Edwards Aquifer. The community soon became a stagecoach stop and part of a freight line that ran between Fredericksburg and Austin. Today, many custom home builders and developers are constructing new homes in the Dripping Springs community in response to growing demand for housing. With its sweet, rural atmosphere and beautiful scenery, Dripping Springs is a great option for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city while still remaining close enough to enjoy all that it has to offer.
