How do you get to the igloo in Super Mario 64?

Get the Koopa Shell

advertisement

For this mission, you need to make it over the brick wall to get the Koopa Shell again. To get to the Koopa Shell: Run right around the mountain and continue to the pond area with the walkway and the spinning flower enemies. Jump onto the walkway and reach the corner (where the rushing snow mounds end their run). From this corner, jump onto the nearest spinning flower enemy and you'll be catapulted into the air—as you float down, guide Mario over the brick wall behind you, where you'll find the two yellow !-Blocks. Hit the one on the right to grab the Koopa Shell.

Riding to the Igloo

Steer the Koopa Shell down toward the frozen lake. On the other side of the platforms with the rolling mounds of snow, there is a very steep slope with a line of coins leading up. Follow the line of coins (jumping as necessary),while riding the Shell to reach the small igloo at the top. Hop off the shell and crawl into the igloo.

Inside the Igloo

Avoid the enemies that lazily stroll around and head to the back-right corner of the igloo. Jump over the short icy wall to enter the room with the blue !-Block in it. Hit the block to get the Vanish Cap. You can now go through all the icy walls! Run back toward the entrance. Directly across from the entrance is a hallway with a wooden ceiling. Jump to get over the ceiling and reach the Power Star that’s encased in ice.

Shell Shreddin' for Red Coins 100 Coins in Snowman's Land

The igloo is the indoor section of this course, and getting to it usually requires you to use the Koopa shell located by the freezing pond. Take the warp to the freezing pond and use the Spindrift to get to the upper ledge, where you will break the box on the right to get the Koopa shell. Ride it back down to the freezing pond and locate the steep slope with the coin trail. Go up the slope and you will run into a fence, which is where the igloo entrance is located. Note that if you were going up the path behind the source of the moving mounds of snow, you can Triple Jump over the big wall there to get right to the igloo, which is nice in case you lost the Koopa shell.
