Where is the Critical Hit Button???

I hate having to ask this question; but I've searched all through the Control Settings, Steam Forums and General Internet Searches; but the closest I've gotten to the answer is hitting X on an XBox. I'm on a PC (Keyboard and Mouse) and for the life of me... I just can't figure out how to activate my critical hit in VATs. The meter is full (has been for sometime)... even though I only recently started using VATs.

Anyway... enough declaimers... Please Help :).

How to do critical hits?

I can't figure out how to do critical hits. My crit meter has been full for about 39 of the 40 hours I've played. I know crits only work in vats (besides sneek attacks). I heard that space bar activates crits but that has not worked for me. So far all my crits are sneak attacks and I would like to be able to do standard crits. I appreciate any clarification on this.

You need to use vats and select a part and then slap the space bar when the bar is full, but you need to hit it before your character fires

spacebar in vats is the only way to do them as far as i know. unless youre using a controller. should give a button prompt at the bottom of the screen when you can.

if your using a 360 controller wait for the meter to fill up then press x right when you start to shoot

You actually have to place your shots in vats first, then as you're about to shoot (once you hit the shoot button) press 'x' (xbox) and it'll make a critical hit.

I dont understand how Critical hits works

When i enter in vats mode i see a critical bar, with a button to execute, but this button is never available.
Sometimes i see the critical bar being used, sometimes not...
I have both critical banker and better criticals.

But i dont understand how it works, if i need to execute manually or if it is automatic.
Also, i dont know when i scored a critical hit or not, i dont see anything poping up in the screen.
Enlighten me please...

I think you can only press button to excute it after actually intiating the attack. As in, you have to press the button in a short time before shooting animation actually happens.

It's manually activated by pressing square before your next VATS attack. Once you use it, you'll be notified the hot was critical.

You need to press square after confirming the attack with X but before you actually pull the trigger/swing the weapon.

After you hit accept you need to hit the Execute Critical button before the attack animation happens. If you have Critical Banker then stars will appear next to the critical bar for each bonus crit in reserve. Mashing off a sequence of four crits to an enemy's face, especially if you're at long range for the Sneak Attack bonus(which now works with the Caution state) destroys just about anything.

Its pretty simple.

Shooting and using vats increases the meter.

When the meter is full you can execute a critical. Not sure what button it is I think it's square?

So when you do vats choose your targets and hit attack your character begins the attack animation for vats. You need to hit the square (critical) button before your character fires the shot.

If you fire only one shot it can be difficult to hit it on time. If you are firing multiple shots just keep mashing the critical button till it goes off.

Tip: Using critical seems to guarantee a hit (barring objects being in the way) so when using your critical attack use it when your vats is targeting the head (or the weak spot) on an enemy for extra damage. I pretty much always use vats on the head of an enemy even if it has a lower chance to hit, that way I can execute them with a critical to the head whenever possible.

This includes beneficial stat modifiers as well, making it possible for a critical hit to deal less damage than a non-critical hit if the attacker has at least doubled their Attack/Special or the target's Defense/Special is at least halved.
