How Long Do Dabs Stay in Your System

How Long Do Dabs Stay in Your SystemRachel Howe2022-08-03T05:27:52-07:00

Whether you’re a first-time or long-time concentrate user, dabs provide a more potent cannabinoid experience compared with smoking pot. Marijuana flower can contain as much as 30% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), while concentrates contain at least 70% THC, with some having over 90% THC. Sign us up.

For those wondering, “how long do dabs stay in your system?”, the answer will not only depend on the type of concentrate used, but also the frequency of use, and the user’s metabolism. Because dabs contain much more THC than flower, many users are left in the dark trying to determine the long-term effects of dabs or how long a drug test can detect it.

How long does a dab high last?

How long does wax take to get out of your urine?

Though concentrates contain a higher percentage of psychoactive cannabinoids, the effects don’t typically last longer than those experienced when smoking flower. The notable differences between ripping a bong or a rig are intensity and onset: dabbing produces a more intense high with effects felt almost instantly. The height of a dab high can last between one to two hours (or more for low-frequency users) before the effects subside.

How long can dabs be detected in drug tests?

Unfortunately, there isn’t a clear-cut answer to the question “how long does THC stay in your system?.” THC levels are affected by age, sex, body mass, metabolism, dosage, the frequency of use, and other factors. Frequent users can have small amounts of detectable metabolites months after using cannabis.

Drug test detection times: urine, saliva, blood, and hair

THC and its metabolite THC-COOH can be detected in a variety of test samples including urine, hair, saliva, and blood. Urine tests are the go-to for employers, probation officers, and parents alike due to its ease and affordability.

The below table provides approximate estimates of the amount of time that it takes for dabs to no longer be detectable when undertaking various forms of drug tests. Please be aware that these drug detection times are estimated and vary depending on your specific circumstances. There is no scientific evidence on which we base our estimated detection times — all of our estimates are based on experience alone. The dab detection times below are all estimates based on a worst-case scenario.

Frequency Of UseUrineSalivaHair*Blood
One time use 7 days 1.5 days Up to 90 days 1.5 days
Up to two times per week 14 days 2 days Up to 90 days 1.5 days
Three or more times per week 30 days 3 days Up to 90 days 2 days
Daily use 30+ days 3 days Up to 90 days Up to 30 days
Long-term chronic use Up to 90 days Up to 30 days Up to 90 days Up to 30 days

  • Cannabis is detectable in the urine for 14 days for infrequent users (less than three times a week), 30 days for moderate users (four times a week), and more than a month for daily users. Keep in mind, different labs may use different THC concentration cut-off points.
  • With blood testing, THC-COOH is detectable one to two days after dabbing. However, as mentioned above, very heavy users can hold the metabolite for as long as a month. Some blood tests have detected THC in heavy users after 25 days.
  • For saliva testing, THC can be detected one to three days after last use for occasional users or up to a month after last use for chronic users.
  • Hair testing can detect marijuana use for the longest, up to 90 days, depending on the hair length.

Other factors to consider

When THC enters the body after dabbing, it is immediately absorbed into the bloodstream. Users can begin to feel effects within a minute of inhalation. THC is broken down in the body into molecules known as metabolites that are stored in organs, body fat, and the bloodstream. People with a quick metabolism or lower body fat can remove THC from their system faster than those with a slower metabolic rate.

Factors affecting drug test detection times

The drug test detection times above are provided as approximate estimates. The actual time it will take for THC from dabs to no longer be detectable in your body varies based on the numerous factors below.

  • Consumption Levels. As detailed in the table above, the key factor affecting how long dabs remain detectable in your body is the quantity and frequency of consumption. Dabs will stay in the system longer for a regular user than for an infrequent user.
  • Stress Levels.  Your stress levels have an impact on the amount of time it takes for THC metabolites to exit your system. The more stress you experience, the longer it takes for carboxy-THC to be purged from your system.
  • Your Metabolic Rate. The amount of days dabs are detectable in your system directly correlates with your metabolic rate. The faster your metabolism, the quicker dabs will be purged from your system.
  • Body Mass (Body Fat Content). Your body stores excess THC metabolites in fast-growing cells such as your body fat, hair, and nails, though the highest concentration is in fat cells. These metabolites leak back into your system over time, prolonging the time it takes until THC is no longer detectable in your system.
  • Your Physical Activity Levels. This is tied in with the previous point. The less physical activity you do, the more body fat cells you will have, and the longer THC metabolites will remain detectable in your system.
  • Your Age. The human metabolism generally slows down with age. For this reason, dabs will remain in the body longer for older people than for younger people.
  • Your General Healthiness.  Since your body metabolism slows down during periods of ill health, a healthier person will process and purge THC metabolites faster than an unhealthy person.
  • Medical Conditions. Certain medical conditions can have an impact on the time it takes for THC metabolites to be removed from your body. For example, medical conditions that impact your kidneys or liver can influence drug-detection times. It is not possible to tell what the impact will be without proper diagnosis.
  • Your Genetics.  Some people are genetically able to process drug metabolites faster than others. This is due to the presence of drug-metabolizing enzyme CYP2D6, as documented by the American Association for Clinical Chemistry. People who have less of this enzyme will experience longer drug-detection times.
  • Use of Other Drugs. Our bodies have a limited capacity for metabolizing drugs from our systems. If your body is overloaded with various drugs, this will prolong the drug-detection time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do dabs show up on a drug test as concentrates specifically?

No. Concentrates will show up on a drug test as cannabis. There is no drug test that tests specifically for the use of dabs.

Do dabs stay in your system longer than cannabis flower?

It depends. Whether you will test positive for a marijuana drug test depends on the amount of THC in your system, and given that dabs have a higher level of THC than regular cannabis flower, consuming them could result in a higher level of THC in your system.  However, given that the amount of THC in your system will depend on your amount of THC consumed, and the duration of use, it all depends on the individual’s consumption habits.

Is it possible to speed up the removal of THC from your system?

Once a person has inhaled a dab, the body starts to break it down naturally as the THC moves through the metabolizing process. While not based on scientific research, many people believe activities such as vigorous exercise and excess hydration help to speed up the removal of THC from your system.  There are many detox kits that claim to remove THC, but these solutions are often unreliable and costly. The best way to ensure dabs are out of the system is to avoid dabbing altogether.

How long does THC from a wax pen stay in your urine?

Like other concentrates, the THC found in wax pens may be found in your urine several days after your last smoke sesh. How often you smoke, how much you smoke, and the speed of your metabolism all play a role in how long it will take for your body to fully process and eliminate THC. If you are a heavy smoker, it could take up to three days for the THC from your dab pen to leave your body. But if you’re a light smoker with a fast metabolism, it may be eliminated in as little as 24 hours. A good rule of thumb is that THC may be detectable in urine for around three days for first-time vapers. If you’re a regular or weekly smoker, it may still be detectable after a week. But if you’re a daily or very heavy long-term user, it might stick around for up to thirty days or more.

Will a dab pen show up in a drug test

Yes, a dab pen will show up in a drug test, depending on the quantity consumed, among other factors.

How long does a dab pen high last?

The effects of a dab pen will generally last between 1 and 3 hours, depending on the amount consumed.

How long does a cart stay in your system?

The duration that a THC cart remains detectable in the system is dependant on the amount consumed and your body fat, among other factors, but it will generally last between 2 and 30 days for most users.

PASSING A DRUG TEST IS EASY if you follow the directions below a few days before your drug test:

    1. Don’t use cannabis!

    2. Go keto (low carb) and start burring fat!

    3. Drink a bunch of water and things like tea to flush your system and ramp up your metabolism.

    4. Exercise some, either by walking jogging or hitting the sauna!

Don’t try to cheat your drug screen and use synthetic urine; the labs are too sophisticated and you’ll definitely get caught. Be smart guys and give up the habit for a few days. It wont be as bad as you think!
