How long to leave bleach in hair 20 vol Reddit

I used salon care volume 20 from Sally’s, and just a generic brand of bleach powder from Sally’s. (Blue). For the first bleaching, I had my sister help out. But the second round I done it myself, and I didn’t find it too difficult. Just try to make sure you’ve got plenty of sections to make it a bit easier for yourself. If you’re gonna go in again with bleach, try to leave the ends if they’ve already processed to the shade you’re happy with. If there’s anything else you wanna know, feel free to ask :-) and good luck with the bleaching. It can be scary

Hello, just a question I've always been wondering and would be delighted what you guys would think. When you dye or bleach your hair from a box, it usually says to leave it on from about 15 minutes to an hour depending on color and product and such. Do you usually measure this after applicating the dye/bleach on the whole hair, or do you start your timer from the moment you start to apply it? With bleach I personally always chicken out and only leave it on for about 15 minutes cause it can take up to an hour to apply it to everything!

Really curious to hear what other people do!

I’ve only ever used 30 (and shamefully 40 at one point, I know better now). A professional here who works with Asian hair recommended I use 20 vol or even lower since it causes less damage and you can pace yourself better because it will process slower.

Is there an ideal time or even max time to leave 20 vol on Asian hair? Most developers say 30 mins but from my understanding I will have to leave it on longer. For context, I’m trying to get to a level at least level 7 before toning just so it will be light enough to put green over and I am fine with multiple sessions of bleaching.

I am by no means a professional. Over the years I have bleached my hair a dozen or so times. So take it with a grain of salt.

Items needed: powder hair lightener ,developer (i have used both 20 and 30 volume in the past), a mixing bowl, and an applicatorbrush , and some rubber/plastic gloves to keep your hands from getting irritated. Optional-comb with one of those pointy ends to make parting/ sectioning easier, plastic processing cap or Saran Wrap.

Follow the directions on the powder lightener to know the correct ratio of lightener to developer. Don’t be stingy with how much you make. You’d rather have extra than not have enough.

Section your hair into like 4 sections. Throughly (but quickly) apply product. I’ve heard you’re supposed to do your roots last because the heat from your scalp makes that bleach process faster—but I’ve never personally had issues with that. Use that comb thing to take small pieces at a time. Apply a generous amount of the lightener/developer mixture. You don’t want to grab too thick of a piece of hair at a time and risk that the interior doesn’t get fully saturated.Repeat until your whole head is covered. Once your whole head is saturated in product—and that plastic processing cap or wrap your hair in Saran Wrap. You don’t want the bleach to dry out too much.

Look at the directions on the lightener for a general idea as to how long to let it process. I try to keep a close eye on it before the time is up to make sure it’s not “too light” and at risk of breaking off.

Very very carefully rinse the bleach mix out of your hair. Be very very careful not to get it in your eyes.

I don’t generally use toners so I am not the person to weigh in on that.

I usually use a purple shampoo over the next while to cancel out some of the brassy/yellow tones.

Again-I am NOT a professional. So tread carefully and follow my directions at your own risk.

I'm glad you asked this question. I recently did Vol 10 developer for 30-40min and only got about 1 level lighter, I've been wishing I'd gone for Vol 20 for 20min to get a greater effect but my main concern was damage. I coated my dry hair in coconut oil and let it sit for a few hours to saturate. For the bleach mixture, besides the bleach powder and developer, I mixed in a couple tablespoons of aloe vera gel (pure, no additives) and a couple tablespoons of Olaplex No. 3. Overall it only made my hair slightly less soft, though it's still pretty damn silky. I'd love to hear what you decide on and how it goes. Don't forget to strand test!

hi all,

i recently, because im in lockdown, i decided i want to go a level 8-10 (maybe 11) blonde and bought a tub of bleach powder and a bottle of 20 volume developer. i haven’t begun any process for bleaching and i am trying to gather more information/advice in regards to lightening my own hair.

should i bleach my hair with 20 volume developer 2-3 times ?

i have done a lottttt of things to my hair this year. (timeline below). my natural hair colour is darkest brown.

early march: went to a salon to get the underside of my hair platinum blonde.

mid april: dyed the underside blue with semi permanent dye

one week later after dying it blue i had to put a blue black permanent box dye over my ENTIRE HEAD because of school.

2 weeks into june: the box dye faded and the underside was grey so i put a semi permanent red dye over it (washed out pretty quick).

mid july: bleached a front section of my hair just on the left (no idea what developer it was since it was a bleaching kit but it was left on for 20-30 min). it lifted pretty well. the next day i put a permanent red box dye on my entire head.

start of august: dyed it all with a permanent black box dye because of school AGAIN.

so now here we are, september 18. i havent done anything with my hair but planning to hehe.

any information/advice would be very helpful :)

What happens if you leave bleach on your hair for 2 hours?

What happens if you leave bleach on your hair for too long? There's a misconception that bleach will work better the longer you leave it on. The maximum amount of time you should leave bleach on your hair is 30 minutes. Any longer than that and you run the risk of serious damage, including brittle strands.

How long do you leave in 20 vol developer?

30 Minutes Maximum If you are using 20 volume developer with a hair color (as opposed to a lightener or bleaching agent) then 20 to 30 minutes is the ideal range to leave it on your hair. Not only does the color become inactive after 30 minutes, but your scalp may start to feel irritated if you leave it on any longer.

How many levels will 20 volume with bleach lift?

When used with bleach, 20 volume is a powerful tool lifting 1-9 levels depending on the bleach, method of application, and hair type/history. 20 volume is the highest level of developer that should be used on the scalp with bleach as the scalp produces more heat and increases the power of the developer.
