The chapters of the Berserk manga, written and illustrated by Kentaro Miura, have been published in Japan by Hakusensha in the seinen manga magazines Monthly Animal House (from 1989 to 1992) and Young Animal (from 1992). The plot follows the adventures of Guts, an orphaned mercenary warrior on his quest for revenge. A total of 370 chapters have been released in Japan. The individual chapters are collected by Hakusensha in a series of tankōbon volumes. The first volume was released in Japan on November 26, 1990 under the Jets Comics imprint. In June 2016, Hakusensha's Jets Comics imprint was rebranded as Young Animal Comics and the first thirty-seven volumes of Berserk were re-published with new cover arts.[1] As of December 24, 2021, forty-one volumes have been released. Since the late 2000s, the manga had been published on an irregular basis with the author taking frequent hiatuses until his death on May 6, 2021.
