How many clothes should I bring to college Reddit

The answer to this depends on how much closet/ dresser space you'll have in your dorm, and also how much you like having a variety of outfit choices.

You'll at least need enough clothing to stretch between laundry days, but you should also consider bringing some clothing that isn't the kind you wear to class. You might want some clothing appropriate for a house party, or for an important class presentation or job interview (business casual typically). You should also bring clothing appropriate for a variety of weather, because you may not be able to make it home to pick up winter clothing as soon as it gets cold. Bring at least a few days worth of cold-weather clothing, and a jacket appropriate for when it rains.

Ultimately, you can bring more if you have more space, but if you will only have a little space to store clothing, be more discerning. Bring the stuff you wear everyday, plus some lounge wear, plus a coat or a jacket.

I brought almost two weeks worth of clothes for going to classes (like nice non-sweatpants outfits that you would wear in that time). For me that was three jeans and 14 shirts. Shirts can overlap with other outfit categories depending on your fashion style. You'll end up accumulating free shirts over the semester from various things. If you like those plaid shirt/cardigans (I forgot the name) don't include them in the shirt count if that makes sense. They're basically very light sweaters

Bring at least 1 sweatpants or some kind of comfy pants with you for days when you just want to be comfy. And tights! They take up very little space and go just fine with any shirt

Idk what to tell you about skirts and shorts. Bring one or two I guess?

Long sleeves are good, but I found short sleeves were more more comfortable for me when layering in the winter because I was inside a well heated building majority of the time. A few of those spaghetti strap undershirts are good for anything and don't take up much space.

Make sure you bring business casual shirt+pants just in case you need to dress up(or dress if you prefer). One party-ish shirt and shirt you don't mind getting messed up with paint or something(good for volunteering) too.

I just brought one winter jacket and one light jacket. If you have a heightened fashion sense bring more if you want

Bring sweaters you actually like and are comfortable in. Like 2 or three hoodies I guess? 2 knitted ones I guess for fashion. I always have problems figuring out my sweaters so I can't help you there. You'll probably end up buying a school sweatshirt so it's alright.

I just brought one dress that I could wear for almost any occasion since I don't really wear them.

Bring one gym outfit even if you don't work out now.

How many pajamas+undies+socks would you wear in two weeks? Bring that amount (plus a few extra undies/socks they're good to have).

For shoes generally just make sure they match with most stuff so they're not taking up space only to be used with one outfit. I usually bring two boots (just one pair should be alright tho), two sneakers, and one pair of sandals/flats idk. Flipflops are nice for walking around your room/dorm building. Not really necessary though but they're easy to get if you decide you do want them later on. Don't wear only one shoes for weeks on end and let them get stinky basically. SHOWER SLIPPERS. TRUST NO SURFACE IN THE BATHROOM.

Bathroom stuff will kinda depend on you. I always bring two towels and wash cloths and I'm good. I brought robes my freshman year but I never used them after the first month because I adapted to changing in the bathroom. Some people use robes, some don't. Whatever's comfortable for you.

Bring whatever accessories you wear normally with the clothes you are bringing. I always bring my purse, tote bag, grocery bags, and backpack and it works out.

Most importantly though, all clothes you bring with you should be clothes you actually like and wear and make you feel good. Wearing the shirt you don't like because you ran out of clean clothes sucks.

It depends on your school, really. In non-pandemic times, I would recommend you visit the campus a few times to see what the students are wearing. Your planned activities also have a bearing on what to bring.

When and where I went to college, being in style was not much of a consideration. A few pairs of jeans, some tee shirts, and a Navy surplus pea coat got me through most of 4 years. I was on the cross country team, so the training flats I was issued by the athletic department saved another clothing cost. Even so, I would recommend males bring at least 1 shirt and tie, and females at least 1 dress suitable for awards ceremonies, college trips, etc.

Flash forward to today, and I sometimes visit NYC's Washington Square Park. The park is surrounded by NYU, and a number of the students are fashionistas. One might be very much out of style there with a low-budget outfit.
