How many credits to graduate high school in Washington

All public high school students are required to meet statewide graduation requirements in order to earn a diploma. The state requires students to complete a minimum of 20 credits for the Classes of 2016-2018. Beginning with the Class of 2019, the state requires students to complete a minimum of 24 credits. Issaquah High School Class of 2022

Graduation requirements are based on the Washington State Administrative Code, Issaquah School District Board Policy, Issaquah School District Regulations, and individual high school requirements. Our procedures serve to organize the operations of the school in a fair and equitable manner and to provide access to strong instruction, connectivity to schools, citizenship as a contributing member of a community, resiliency for growth, and personal expression. The following standards are applied in accordance with these decision-making bodies and are a list of the standards relating to the earning of credit, making academic progress and participation in extra-curricular activities.

WASHINGTON STATE & ISSAQUAH SCHOOL DISTRICT GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible to graduate in Washington, high school students must earn all required state and local credits, successfully complete a High School and Beyond Plan, and complete a pathway. Please be aware that graduation requirements for all classes may change depending on action by the Washington State Legislature. To participate in the graduation ceremony students must meet all state, district and school requirements. The minimum credit requirement for the Class of 2022 at IHS is 24 credits.

* Personal Pathway Requirements are related courses that lead to a specific post high school career or educational outcome chosen by the student, based on the student's interest and High School and Beyond Plan, that may include Career and Technical Education, and are intended to provide a focus for the student's learning.

High School and Beyond Plan

Each student shall have a high school plan to guide his or her high school experience, including plans for post-secondary education or training and career. Students shall create their high school and beyond plan through a district provided website called Career Cruising. In cooperation with parents, guardians and school staff, the students will share and revise their plans to accommodate changing interests, abilities and goals. Students will present their high school and beyond plan during a senior exit interview.

Pathways Requirements are met by meeting standard on subject area assessments, ASVAB score, earning college credit in ELA and/or math, AP/IB courses or exams in ELA and/or math, completing a sequence of CTE courses which includes the potential to earn college credit or earn an industry recognized credential, and/or a combination of ELA and math options from any of the General Postsecondary Education Pathways.

ASVAB Score

MATH REQUIREMENT:
To graduate, students must earn 3.0 High School math credits in 9th-12th grade, regardless of which math classes have been passed prior to 9th grade.

Additionally, to meet WAC requirements, a student must successfully complete Algebra, Geometry and a 3rd year of Math that aligns with the student’s high school and beyond plan. Students may successfully complete these classes at any time between 6th through 12th grade. These courses cannot be skipped over or placed out of. For courses taken outside of Issaquah School District, students are responsible for submitting documentation of completion to their counselor for approval. If appropriate documentation showing successful completion of these courses cannot be submitted, the student must be enrolled in the missing class or classes prior to graduation.

SOCIAL STUDIES REQUIREMENT:
This shall consist of the following mandatory courses: World History (1.0 credit), Civics (.5 credit) and U.S. History (1.0 credit). Issaquah HS requires an additional .5 credit of World History. The State of Washington also requires that students take a Washington State History and Government course. This requirement is satisfied in 7th grade in the Issaquah School District.

TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENT:
The Issaquah School District requires that all students meet technology proficiency. This is accomplished by successfully completing an approved technology course in high school/ middle school or passing the technology proficiency test. Information on the test can be found on the School District website. Successful passage of the technology proficiency test does not result in earning credit.

2023 Graduation Requirements The requirements for the Class of 2019 are described in WAC 180-51-068. Districts may apply for a delay of up to two years in implementing the 24-credit graduation requirements.
